sad and pathetic....

Muppet.

Out of interest, this is all stuff that was not hoping to be used on the project bike.

The project bike comprises frame, monolever, engine cases, gearbox, final drive, forks, wheel rims, hubs. The rest is surplus to requirements.

Cheers, I'm glad you've enjoyed it. I certainly have, there are a lot of knowledgable, enthusiastic people on here and corresponding with them has, mostly(!), been interesting and informative.

In a nutshell the issue is that business has been slow of late and whereas I would have been willing to keep going (there is some, very dim, light at the end of the tunnel) my good lady thinks, not entirely unreasonably, that it's time to quit. That being the case my workshop will go and with it all my machinery, etc.

I am not, as you will have gathered, an assembler of other peoples' custom bits. There is nothing wrong with that - there are loads of well-designed, well-engineered, proven components out there, which can be combined in a very individual machine. However I like to make stuff and push things that little bit further than they need to be pushed - because, as I've said before, I can. Well now I can't!

My lathe/mill has been sold and is being collected on Monday, which gives me the weekend to make whatever else I can! I will keep working on the 'project' until my workshop itself is gone, so there may be some little gems to come. In the meantime I believe Pete Keys wants me to do something on 'Project Katmandu' so I'll be around for a while.

Thanks to everyone who's emailed with their good wishes, they're much appreciated. Who'd have thought some old hacked about BMW could create so much interest! :)

A decision not made lightly. The economic downturn sure hits those with higher overheads & plant etc. Thanks for sharing the bike build & best of luck with the work front.:thumb

sorry to hear this project has come to an end for you, i was quite enjoying looking forward to each installment.
re st parts, i have a g/s that im trying to put back to standard, if any rear end parts are becoming available i would be interested: subframe / rack, mudguard, seat. also tank and indicators and poss exhaust and side panels, i think they are all compatable to the g/s, tho i might stand corrected , thanks steve.

I have subframe, rack & pannier frames (chromed), mudguard, indicators, exhaust and side panels and seat. No tank unfortunately although I do have a 24 litre one. In terms of compatibility, you'd have to check that but I'm sure there are plenty people on here who can advise. A number of people have expressed an interest in various parts but no cash has been forthcoming so they're all still available. PM me with an email address and I'll send you pics.

Sorting through my workshop, the other day, I found some Carbon Fibre tubing. I might make some fairing mounts out of it - if I can figure out how to make all the fittings without my lathe...

Haven't done 'em yet. Maybe this week.

Been doing a bit of Mr. Keys' 'Katmandu'. Headlamp/screen mount in 2mm stainless. It's a bit heavier at the front now! :)

I was fitting rhe emulators to the forks and before I got rid of the lathe, a couple of weeks back, I knocked up a little tool to ease the fitting of the circlip. Today I got round to using it... Worked well, as it happens.
