Dogbytes' R80 ST project

I have considered using the motogadget M unit, but can't really justify the cost,

and as far as I know it's not a complete solution, the charging circuit is separate, as are the warning light circuits, oil pressure and neutral!

so I think I am going to wire mine from fresh!

but I do like the concept!

There have been a few moto gadget installations over on advrider. I'll definately be going that way when I put my bikes together.

I does look very good stuff. I happened upon it whilst looking for suitable, high quality, low profile switches. I only need a starter button and a horn button (for its MOT:D) and an M Unit is probably a bit expensive to run two switches. I suppose, in reality, neither of those switches need to be on the bars at all - so they could be hidden somewhere accessible.

Got a bit of a shock today!

In fact I got all of a shock - a Wilbers one which was waiting for me when I got home. :) and, apparently, the tank should arrive tomorrow too. It's all go...

Couldn't upload the pic last night...

The old and the new.

I hope it's better than the crap thing they sold me. Mine felt like I was being kicked up the arse on any bump bigger than a matchstick. I had to take it off in the end. In fairness yours looks like a much higher spec shock. If you have the high speed damping adjustment you should be fine.

The biggest problem is that the bike is so modified now that I couldn't make much of guess as to its eventual weight - let alone how it will be distributed. I'm expecting to have to swap springs once it's all together. Also, it'll see more track than street use. My fingers are crossed!

When I contacted them about the shock they sold me I was told it was sprung and shimmed to the weight I gave them. The springs easy to change it was the shimming they seemed reluctant to do...I presume it's the shimming that allows oil through the needle valve in the shock body.

I've had three wilbers and one Technoflex on various bikes. They've all been crap. I'll never buy another.

Sorry to be negative and I'm sure yours will be fine.

We can but try. Sorry to hear you've had such bad luck with them.

It looks a pretty good quality bit of kit (as it should be for £666.40!) and I'm optimistic I can get it to work well enough. The front end is more of an issue - standard forks with cartridge emulators. However I started, nearly 40 years ago, with two-stroke triple Kawasakis and I quite liked how they handled - so this one should be a dream!

Anyone got any of these?

I'm looking for two of the CC Products, 70mm diameter, enamel, tank badges.
Looking on San Jose BMW's website, they're $19.95 each - but, and a lot of US suppliers seem to have the same problem, the delivery comes up as $155!

I've emailed them for a proper price but, in the meantime, I just thought I'd ask if anyone knows somewhere in the UK who sells them. Or someone who has a pair they never got around to using.

Just the stick on ones at BAMW http://www.bamw.co.uk/parts/decal-stickers.html

I've recently bought a Nitron for another bike of mine. Very impressive build quality and cheaper than the Wilbers. Time will tell if it's any good though.

My favourite is Maxton http://www.maxtonsuspension.co.uk/

I must admit, Maxton were on the shortlist (as were Hyperpro) but a lot of people seem to rate Wilbers and, if I hate it, it's only two bolts to take it off and five minutes to list it in the 'for sale' section:). I'd have put an Öhlins on it if I'd thought yellow and gold would have fitted in with the overall look!

I've currently got 3 bikes with Wilbers suspension.
They're all Paralevers, all have the remote reservoir and are fully adjustable for high & low speed damping, rebound and ride height adjustment.
I've found them very plush with good control over the bumps,it pays to have a play with the high/low speed damping to dial it in.
My R100R has better rear suspension than my 2014 GS lc with BMW ESA and if R.F is talking about a bike feeling like he's been "kicked up the arse",he's welcome to ride my GS,it's actually hurt me a couple of times and due to these 10p a piece dampers is an expensive pile of shit.

I'll be surprised if you think the Wilbers is crap suspension.

Here's shot of my new rear strut for my K100R Flying Brick.

Climb down off that high horse!

As I mentioned above the shocks need the high/low damping adjustment which yours clearly have. I still think they're shyte but that's just my opinion none of the ones I've had/had have stood up to any serious use. I've one on a Paralever at the minute that came back from a 6,500 mile trip with the spring over an inch shorter and the adjustment nut threads completely clogged with grit to the extent that they will not turn.

Wow! Who'd have thunk a rear shock could be so contentious an issue?

I will look forward to trying it and reporting back. Although, it must be said, this one is likely to have a much easier life than the one on a properly used GS.
