After much faffing about and asking of questions I've finally ordered my new bike...

Super Adventure 1290 S :aidan

Lucky for me that Yamaha couldn't deliver an MT10SP and that the price vs spec made me reconsider my plan to get a SuperDuke GT :rob

Took me a while to get there but think I've made the right decision in the end - the future's Orange :thumb2

Great choice - it is looking highly likely to be the bike to replace my 1190S

I'd have one also of it wasn't for the only dealer within 200 miles being a total fucking arse.

I feel your pain, having had some shocking experiences in the past.

Luckily for me Crescent in Verwood seem brilliant so far...

Enjoy - when is it due?

Good of you to test out KTM's first attempt at Keyless Ignition for the rest of us :D:D

They need to open more dealers, for sure. Does anyone know if KTM are planning on expanding their dealer network?

One of their reps at the NEC bike show indicated that they were looking to significantly expand the network - time will tell. There again I have two decent dealers within 20 miles so not a problem for me :)

Just spoke to my local dealer today and they say the bikes have been put back till april may couple of months gone allready then:nenau

That's good to know. My closest dealer is far enough away for it to become a real pain in the arse, should there be any issues.

KTM send a recovery van to pick the bike up from your house if you have problems and if you ask nicely they bring you a bike to be using while they sort yours out.

Then they ask you to return the loan bike and exchange it for one you don't want but that's another issue.

For anything major, a truck to collect the bike would be fine. It's more for the niggly stuff you think "I'll just pop into the dealer" for that would bug me. I'm probably over thinking it, but it would be annoying if there was a particular issue that wouldn't go away after the first visit, and you end up having to go back a few times.

KTM send you a courtesy bike or is it the dealer ?

BMW only gave me a 3 Series M-Sport Diesel for the whole Bank Holiday weekend the last time I needed them :(

You seem to be assuming a string of niggles await, I think most owners have had few issues, and even fewer that would demand an instant fix (i.e. crap fuel gauges - but if you have owned a BMW you should be used to these)

Maybe have a discussion with the dealer about such concerns and see if he offers to do a collect and return service in the event of problems - I am sure he will have full confidence in his product (or profit margin)

Yep - only issue I have had that required the bike to go back was some marks on the rear wheel I noticed after picking up the bike. New wheel fitted at first service.

Everything else I have sorted myself as I like to "know" it's been done properly including:

  • Bit of loose/stray weld in downpipe making a rattling noise - dropped exhaust and it fell out.
  • Vent pipe for fuel cap blocked by cable tie against frame. Found problem and rerouted.
  • Recall on cable that goes too close to sharp edge of ABS unit - sorted with a couple of cable ties. They can check it at the next service.

I guess if this was a BMW then the owner would have already rejected the bike :augie

With KTM's you just get on with it and ride :thumb

As long as they still do hand written invoices I'm happy :D

Andres

Oh to be so easily pleased!:D

I'm not assuming, and am sure it'll be fine. We shall see.

Happy to help :aidan

Wish I didn't have to have it TBH, had it on my Multistrada and felt they were solving a problem that wasn't there (and I rode off more than once with the bloody key in the seat lock).

I have not been told that (yet) - hope it's wrong 'cos if it's true I will have to cancel my order as I have a Euro tour booked and I can't wait that long for the bike to arrive. :(
