Dr & Mrs J's Tour of Spain - Bilbao to Conil

Have a great trip,

Be safe.:thumb

Love Spain, but not really cities, although Madrid was a bit mad.

Next time stray off the beaten track and if you haven't already learn some basic Spanish, it really enhances the experience..

Mas tinto por favor!

:101

PS: Beware of crossing solid white lines, even to turn into a petrol station.

so far, so good...

Here we are leaving home on Friday...

...the crossing was OK, but the food very expensive and pretty average. We went to the cinema and drank a lot. After the two night/one day crossing, which was very smooth, we arrived in Bilbao today and rode via Burgos to Salamanca. Here's myself at a motorway picnic area...

Defo, there is nothing like the first big trip as a couple on yer own bikes :thumb2

Andres

Seconded on the High Viz front :D

I see what you mean about the hiviz vests but we had to carry them so we thought we'd just as well wear them rather than pack them, and in all fairness, Mrs J says she feels safer wearing one.

Last night, we went to the Plaza Mayor for dinner and a wander about. Very atmospheric it was too. Lovely meal, not a frigging clue what we ate but the waiter recommended it and we couldn't understand him. Whatever it was, it tasted like chicken. Maybe it was.

Can you tell Stork from butter?

I can. One is a big bird nesting in the cathedral in Salamanca.

The other is, well, butter.

Plus there are storks nesting all the way along the motorway from Salamanca to Mérida, up in trees, on electricity pylons and stuff. Fantastic birds.

This afternoon we arrived in Mérida, where we're staying at the Mérida Palace Hotel. You may have guessed we've not skimped on the accommodation thing at all but I like a nice bed, hot shower, fluffy towels and a cold beer after a hard day riding. Plus Mrs J insisted we stay in nice places. Trailfinders found us this gem at £75 for the night, B&B. It is a 5 star hotel, so not bad all in all.

The best thing we've brought with us? The Scala Q2 headsets have been brilliant, working faultlessly all day at up to 600 metres apart. We charge them up every night and then clip them back onto the helmets every morning. They have paired well with my Zumo 550, the sat nav instructions have come through fine and Mrs J and I have been chatting away to one another as we ride pretty much all day. It's been weatherproof so far too. The system is way better than my Autocom which was problematic from day one. The Scala has worked faultlessly straight out of the box. Once the voice channel is open, it remains open as a two way channel until we've been quiet for more than 15 seconds. And it works well up to 80mph. It may well be fine over that but Mrs J won't go too fast, she just likes to amble along.
