Had a few worrying bangs through the pegs earlier followed by a short dramatic stop when the drive shaft appeared to eat its rubber shroud. Taking it apart tomorrow but can anyone ID the 2 bits of debris that fell out while it was being recovered and in the event of the driveshaft needing replacing has anyone used the rebuild-able option from Motorworks?

Thanks...

Flat part is the hard plastic circular clip that retains the bellows into the final drive, the other part ? Hard to see but could be the cup from the end of the UJ.

As you have no bellows, I think something will probably have failed needle bearings/cup dislodged in the rear UJ and centrifugal force sends the debris through the bellows that then come off.

Either way, unless you're handy with the spanners, it's costly. I rebuilt my own driveshaft, not that difficult as long as you properly centre and pein over / stake the UJ in cleanly...

Hard to see pics, but on rebuildable driveshaft, I fitted one last year. Seems pretty good so far. Has a few thousand miles on it and no issues. Comes with spare cush rubbers. Only faff was that the retaining ring at gearbox end was a little too small so I had to use the one from the OEM driveshaft to be able ot locate the new shaft onto gearbox output. I posted about it around september time, but I don't think there was much more info than I have written above.

Thanks

Mostly apart now. I don't think this is getting rebuilt so will be off to Motorworks tomorrow. At least it didn't wipe out the swingarm!
Cheers!

Be sure to check for play in pinion bearings as I could imagine there being an effect on the FD. There may not be, of course, but worth checking if you haven't already.

Other thing to say is that when you replace the gaiters, I found the Motorworks gearbox end gaiter to be thinner and lower quality than OEM - I used a Motorworks one and had to replace it after about 18 mths as it split. When I picked the OEM one up it was obviously stronger.

Also, depending on the year, the driveshaft may come out through the swingarm or may not fit. Mine is an 08 and will not go through the swingarm, so swingarm removal necessary to remove and refit driveshaft.

That's brilliant, thank you so much. Got the old (and wrecked) driveshaft out and making the call tomorrow. I'm thankful that the swing arm is undamaged and the FD seems to be unaffected.

Cheers Simon
