'morning all,

I'm looking at fitting driving lights to my 12, and after extenstive research have (nearly) decided on Hella FF50s [PIAAs look fantastic, but I just can't justify the cost for the sort of riding I do].

So, the biq question... standard white FF50s or 'cool blue' FF50s? Or is there a good reason to consider FF75s instead? Or is there anything better at, say, less than a hundred quids a pair?

One reason for fitting them is to make me look big and scarey when filtering through slow motorway traffic (i.e. anti-SMIDSY lights!)... does the 'cool blue' help to get you noticed, or just look like a boy racer who's been to Halfords on payday?

I resisted the temptation to do a poll!

FF50's are an excelent bit of kit and will do the job you want easily, however if you can afford the difference in price then the Micro DE's do an even better job despite their size.

Oh and either in white!

FF50's

I fitted FF50 fogs on my 12 and am well pleased with the result.

They are wired with an independant switch and relay.

They definitely make a big difference filling in the spread of light on the road in front of the bike.

Mates who I ride with have also commented how much more 'obvious' the bike is. The lights are just the standard white bulbs.

Nice!

How are they fitted?

I'm thinking about doing it the easy way... mounted to engine bars... but your pic looks great - presumably not those £150+ machined alloy brackets, so how'd ya do it?

Sadly I have used those very expensive machined brackets...

Worked out at about £120 at the time if I remember. Outrageous price but excellent quality and what's another £120 when youve just shelled out just over £10K on the bike

See the following url for details. Good communication and delivery.

Awww, I was hoping you'd got a cheapskate way of doing it :(

I think I'll get the lights first and see if I can come up with a Mouse-style bodge - can aways get the proper jobs later if it doesn't work out.

Thanx for the info

Paul

Try A.B.Butt in Leicester for the lights, they are Hella stockests and have always been cheaper than any other supplier I have seen (including those on here).
FF50's are good lights (I have four on my 1150GS, two on dip and two on high) but the glass lense extends around the edge of the body and causes a lot of glare in unwanted places. It is easy to mask the edge but the larger lamps are not this design and therefore don't suffer the same problem.
Saw the FF75's on their stand at a LR show a couple of weeks ago, so reasonably priced I considered buying a pair and junking one set of the FF50's.
