Your helmet gets treated more roughly than that in the factory /QUOTE]

Don't know what kind of places you visit Neil, but the only person I allow to treat my helmet roughly is the missus.:D

Testing it would he ideal normally except its cone at a bad time, my car is about to go in for some repair work then I'm selling it, so the bike (and helmet) will be my only method of transport for a couple of weeks until I sort a new car!

As such I need some sort of helmet, even though I'm not confident in mine I'm going to use it in the short term then replace when ive sold the car and got some cash in my pocket!

Every time I've done it in the past via my local Arai dealer, Phoenix have sent down a loan lid for me to use in the meantime. Ride in, swap, ride out and then do the reverse when the lid comes back (assuming ok).

Never been charged on any of the 3 occasions.

I have done this before and it hurts pride more than helmet itself. I change helmets every three years regradless, the UV and junk in the air are of concern in the lan down under so I would rather the thing worked when I needed it to work. A $1000 Arai over 3 years works out to about 1c a day. I saw a bloke the other with a helmet that I remember being on the shelves 40 years ago. Sure it probably complies with the law (sort of) but it aint gonna do such to prevent injury.

the thick plottens

well, I used the helmet for the first time since the drop today...it could be worse than I first thought!
the visor doesn't close propperly so I removed it along with the side pods... One of the white mounting plates that the visor mounts on is slightly broke as well
Ive phoned my local HG where I originally bought it from and their going to check out a loan helmet from phoenix while they look at mine.
I'm fairly sure ive seen the broken bit on the spares list on Arai website, unfortunetly my Internet is down (writting this on my iphone which cant play the flash arai website!)..so I can't check & I'm not sure its a user replacable part.
The cost of repair will now make the decision for me!

From your description it sounds like a broken base plate...replacements are about a fiver.
