Hi Any body had a similar problem with a wet streetpiolot 111. on a trip across northern France the other week, we experienced biblical type rain on the way back to the ferry in Le Harve. Half way down the French motorway the GPS stopped working. On closer inspection on the boat home it was noted that water was behind the screen tried to dry the unit out but no go either on battery power or on 12v bike power. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Bike performed like a dream knew it was rain hard when stopped at the pay booth and noted water up to my ankle.

The same thing happened with my Navigator 11, a little moisture behind the screen right in middle, it was like you, heavy showers going across France in June. Didn't do anything about it as it continued to work as per normal. Was in Dunmore East a few weeks ago, once again in the rain and it just went dead. Brought it back to the dealers, told them the problem, they wanted to see the original purchase invoice, so they are going to give me a new Navigator 111 as a replacement. Happy Days!

I get water behind the screen and it stops picking up satellites. Called Garmin and they've said send it back for a fix/reseal, but I believe they charge a minimum of £50, so I never bothered. Instead, I just left it on and it eventually dried out and started working again... No idea how to fix it!! Sorry!

Thanks for the replies. contacted Garmin who offered to attempt a repair at a cost of between £150 to £200. not worth sending back at that price so again any help would be appreciated.

Stick it in the airing cupboard for a week....that should sort it, if it is retrievable.....

She and I were in a downpour in Scotland beginning of July.We hit a band of rain for about 20 mins.As you can imagine everything got soaked.

Next day I looked at the unit(SP111) and found the power input socket had green corossion marks on it. I took some of G/F's eye liner budsand wiped it clean.

No problems since (exept coming off bike a few days later)..

I had a problem with condensation in a 2720 a while back. After advice from this board I took a Silicon gel sack (usually included free of charge in nearly every electronic gizmo you've ever bought) and heated it in the oven for half an hour to dry it out. Then place the gel in a Tupperware type box with the GPS unit and seal the lid. The theory is that the silicon dessicant stuff draws the moisture out of the unit. Worked for me! Mind you I had condensation not inundation, but at £150 it must be worth a try!

If your handy with a screw driver,

most electronic kit is sealed by using a simple shaped gasket that goes rounds the edge of the unit, and a shaped gasket for the keys.

If you look closely at the unit you may see some screws (Though it has to be noted I have never seen one of these units, I take the view if it is manufactured it can be un manufactured) gently unscrew these and put the unit in either a warm not hot enviroment or seal it in an air tight container with some of the silca bags thats was suggested earlier and leave for at least 7 days, then try it again, this loosing of the shell will help the warm air circulate through the unit, it may work at £100 -£200 for repair it's worth a try.

It all depends where the water ingress was if it was through the buttons then your porbably stuffed as this would need a Garmin specific parts and I don't know if you can buy these.

If your not happy to do this maybe a mate who's more confident with the tools could help. If you where a bit more local I would offer to do it for you.

HTH
