Ducati 996 ( ist reg 1999 ) Base model

Have a look at Car and Classic.

Some 996 bikes on there to help you to form a view.

My guess is rather varied as prices are really odd at the mo, mostly low but some oddballs out there.
The money tends to follow limited or first editions rather than standard models.

I’d say £8 - 12k dep on condition

Does it come with Termignoni pipes etc.

(If not I have a brand new set of carbon Termi's)

How much history?

Was the fuel pump changed when is was serviced?

You're a bit stuck with something like that though, surely? Best part of 30 yrs old and 1500 miles so you can't go banging any miles on it or it just becomes a 5k/8k mile 996 like a few others...so those miles cost a fortune to ride...it is a £12k ornament...and a £6k identical (bar mileage) ornament looks the same but can be ridden occasionally and still be a £6k ornament.

While it’s got an age appeal about it,It’s not a classic motorcycle of its time. Obviously, the 916 was the one to have and after that they really just follow on. It wasn’t a lovely bike to ride in fact it was like riding on a plank until you were at seriously license losing speed when the suspension seem to come into its own. Maintenance hungry they still look quite pretty though. A classic design. I would think around £10k which in real monetary terms is the equivalent of a five or six-year-old multiStrada.

Apart from anything else, I sat on one last weekend, lordy lordy I would need to be 25years younger and 25 times more flexible to enjoy one of those
Only time it is ever comfortable is when it's in its natural state.....going forward, quickly.

Had one for 12 years.
I really miss it.....but would not be able to ride it.

Indeed. The only bike of that era I've got on with as it did have improved ergos, was ironically, one shunned at the time as the looks changed, hence they're relatively affordable now. The Ducati 999. A very capable and nice bike to ride, despite the less appealing nose/headlamp design. I'd take one of those over a 996. I tried a 998 when last visiting the IoM for a run over the mountain. It nearly crippled me...terribly uncomfortable and tbh, much preferred my old Mille.

Yeah.... the 999 was reasonably comfortable

If I was taking on a 26 year old it wouldn’t be that.

SP2's are also expensive these days. I've ridden an SP1 back to back with a 998 which is the nearest comparison I have. The Honda left me a little cold. Harsh suspension, you sit on rather than in it, and the Ducati did feel better in the corners. The SP1 turned in later but the Duke rewarded more with good low down and mid range grunt out of corners and demanded a slightly smoother riding style. Reserve light came on with 70 miles from a full tank on the SP1! Neither were particularly comfortable back then and now I wouldn't consider either whereas something like a 999 I would.

Look for an ST4S, 996 Motor and great Suspension !!

If I had shekels I would have one !!

Nicest set up and rideable sports motorcycle that I have had the pleasure of riding (Well apart from a Dr John Guzzi B spec!)
