I had similar symptoms on my VTR1000. I'd left the bike for a year and replaced the battery. The alternator was kicking out 14.4v, the new battery across the terminals was reading 14v (or whatever it's supposed to have when fully charged), but not enough juice to start the bike: it would turn over slowly. I ended up starting the bike with a jump pack which isnt very convienient...

Turned out to be the (new) battery; i'm guessing that it had something to do with the acid and initial charge somehow giving the battery the voltage but not the ampage, but I dont really know. Anyway bought myself another battery and all was fine.

Worth a look i guess.

Thanks all, I'm testing both and i'll make a choice. The cost of the 12GS really does make me think twice though (I can easily afford it, its just a "worth" problem :) ). Expect to see a 1150 in a for sale section near you soon :)

I had the same problem when I bought a new battery to cure the abs/start up problems on my 1100. Read correct readings etc. To test it put a multimeter across it when cranking the engine, my new battery used to drop to 7-8v. Motoworks changed it under guarantee.

Never used to like the Multistrada, but that silver one with the luggage on looks tasty...got me thinking now :mmmm

Mine was the faster 'red' version but without any luggage.

Could never get quite comfortable but loved the handling and flickability.

Wonder if they'll launch that other thing soon?
