DWA???

I've recently aquired a 1200GS. Its a 55 plate 05 model and when I turn the ignition on it goes through the various checks, bulbs, EWS, etc but then it displays DWS and a long battery type symbol.

What is DWS? Can't remember seeing that one on my last 05 GS?

Oh ok....it's the DWA ....Diebstahl Warn Anlage...Theft warning system (from what I can see by just typing it into Google anyway)

I'd guess ('cos I can't be bothered to read the google results ) that your alarm has been triggered in your absence and it's telling you that.

It's in the Rider's Manual, at the start of the 06 version at least.

Warnings, overview Mode of overview sub-section

You may have a yellow warning triangle - there seems to be two versions of the warning (one with triangle and one without) depending on the fault - and DWA! (BuMW's exclamation mark, not mine)

The answer is, on the same page.

(i) The Anti-theft alarm battery is weak

or

(ii) The Anti-theft alarm battery is flat

The same sub-section (four pages later) explains the cause and the solution.

It would seem you are right Though I'm sure you didn't quite mean it that way

It's a warning that the anti-theft device needs attention. Quite useful, perhaps?

Who knows, it may just stop someone walking out the door and finding their bike gone.

Though, equally useful might be a display that lit up, saying "RTFM" from time to time.

Ah ha! I asked the BMW dealer to turn it off so that whats probably what its telling me...that its off. No warning triangles or anything just an image of an empty battery.

Checked my manual again and its definately not in there!

That's because there is a separate supplement to the manual if you have an alarm fitted old chap... Must have got lost between owners?

Odd, as I have a OEM BuMW alarm fitted and the EWA! warning is in the bog standard Owners' Manual.

There is no mention of EWA! in the separate handbook for the alarm, which relates only to the operation of the alarm's remote fob.

Funny old world.

From your link the EWA! warning explanation seems to be in the Rider's Manual, still.

It makes sense for it to be there as the warning flashes up on the bike's instruments and relates to the alarm's in built battery. Just like it is on the earlier models. Not the place some might think to look perhaps?

Good find for the on-line manuals by the way, even if one has to fight through the Danish. Shame the UK site doesn't have the same.
