Afternoon,

just after a bit of info please.
I have a 2016 GSA triple black, 66 plate so 2017 model also I believe, with rider mode pro fitted, ABS pro fitted. Now I believe that with these options they also fitted the dynamic brake light, that flashes when emergency braking and also puts hazards on if emergency braking down to standstill.
I've pretty much tried allsorts of braking at allsorts of speeds but can I get the damn thing to flash or the hazards to operate. Does anyone know if mine has it or doesn't have it? if I have and its not working then I'd want it looked at before warranty runs out in October.
thanks in advance

Give me the last 7 digits of your VIN number and I will see if it mentions it on your bike spec?

Z910473. is it mentioned in the build specs then?

The spec for your bike shows:

so does that mean it has it or not??

I think it depends on what were the exact constituents of the Comfort, Touring, and Dynamic packages when your bike was built, as it will most likely have been bundled into one of those. This is probably not that easy to determine as I'm sure the contents of the options packs have changed over time.

The dynamic brake light is only available as a piece of optional equipment ex-works in connection with ABS Pro (in connection with optional equipment Pro Riding Modes) from model year 2016 onwards for the models R 1200 GS and R 1200 GS Adventure and the S 1000 XR. The tourers K 1600 GT, GTL and GTL Exclusive will have this safety advantage as standard from model year 2016. From BMW Motorrad site.

Might be best contact your dealer for this one, as it is quite confusing, even in their language.

ABS Pro incl. dynamic brake light available for six models from model year 2016.

The dynamic brake light is available as an option ex works in conjunction with ABS Pro (in conjunction with the option “Ride Modes Pro”) from model year 2016 for the models R 1200 GS, R 1200 GS Adventure and S 1000 XR. The K 1600 GT, GTL and GTL Exclusive luxury tourers will feature this safety feature as standard from model year 2016 - as the ideal supplement to ABS Pro.

I think itsa trip to a beemer dealer saturday and pester the shit out of themtell them its not working

I had it fitted on my 2016 1200 TE and had a similar experience. Took it on to a private road and did about 5 really hard emergency type stops. Only once did I get the brake light to flash. Took it to my dealers at Wollaston where a couple of the lads took it for a road test. The result was that it worked but the guy nearly stood the bike on its nose and nearly came off before they could get it to flash. I was told that "they were all like that" and even the cars had to be braked very hard before any reaction from the brake light. I felt then that this was an accessory that was a complete waste of time as it clearly was not fixable and was very unlikely to work as intended.
That said I now ride a 1250 Rally TE and carried out the same test a month ago and it worked faultlessly, flashing the brake light under very heavy braking and switching on the hazard lights as I stopped, switching them off again once I picked up speed again. Interestingly a mate was there and we did the same test on his Triple Black, 2016 year and his also performed properly.
If I had seen how it should work when I had the 2016 bike I would have definitely asked my dealer to make it work properly. hope this helps.

Quote from the Riders manual, page 148:

Panic braking
If the vehicle decelerates sharply
above 50 km/h, the brake light
will flash rapidly to warn road
users behind the vehicle.
If the vehicle decelerates to below
15 km/h, the hazard warning
lights come on. When the speed
increases to above 20 km/h,
the hazard warning lights are
switched off again automatically.

No mentioning of options or riding modes.
This tempts me to assume that all the GS/GSA are equipped with it, and may explain why the function is not listed in the options or equipment list.

Looking at the spec for my 2017 GS which had dynamic brake light it also had hill hold so perhaps both came at the same time??

You have to brake pretty bloody hard for it to come on. I have it on my K16 and tried to get it to activate and it wouldn't, then a car pulled out in front of me and hey presto the back light flashed away.

Don't think it has ever come on on my GSA.

Im obviously not going to know until that happens to me. I can live with not finding out to be honest
