We are still using Outlook Express on Win XP as a mail client on some of our computers. We have lost messages, probably due to oversized inbox's and compacting being inadvertently terminated part way through.

1) Can some one recommend a recovery utility to re-combine the various bits of folders?

2) What are the good e-mail packages currently available? I'm using Thunderbird on my computer which has some good features but isn't without problems. We do most of our business through e-mail and need to retain old messages for around twelve months and ideally beyond that in an accessible archive directory. This leads to large inbox folders with multiple customer sub-folders in a structured directory and leads to the problems above.

I quite like MS Outlook. Set it up with logical folders and it behaves well. The beauty is that it downloads the messages (but you can still leave them on your mail server -eg yahoo etc). I have over 15 yrs of e-mails (work and personal) retained, including attachments - and it has reached 16Gb total capacity.

Haven't use an email client at home for years now. I leave it all on the server and just use the Web interface. So long as I have Internet and a browser I can get my mail anywhere and it doesn't matter if my pc goes up in smoke.

Who is your email with? It might be worth looking at their Web interface.

whats wrong with Gmail ?

G as in Google. I wouldn't want to trust that bunch, I don't even use their search engine these days.

Marki, this is for business use.

Longdog, you only half read the opening post, I have T'bird on my own computer but it isn't perfect and still has folder size restrictions that can cause issues.

I need an e-mail client for business that can handle thousands of mails, archive and re-access old messages. Is there such a thing?

Full version of outlook is what your after. You still didn't say who your mail is with so I still stand by investigating the Web interface.

I use BT/Yahoo.
Unlimited server space. Good spam trapping. Good virus protection. Emails up to 25MB in size.
They've recently decided to do away with the free accounts and now charge me £1.60 a month - but for that, I think I get a very good service.
Don't know what their support is like because in about 10 years - i've never had a problem.

If you are on BT broadband you get this for free.
