My GSA is still under warranty and currently sitting on 6800 miles with a service due in 3500.
I’m leaving on a trip to Norway in a few weeks which will be in the region of 3800 miles, putting me beyond the mileage for my next service.
The next one due is a 12k which is a fairly big one with the recommendation of a carden shaft inspection and lube.
I’ve got it booked in for all that but I’m thinking about telling them to leave the shaft as 1, it’s nowhere near the 12 k recommended interval for that, 2 I’d rather them not feck around with that just before my trip and 3 obviously it’s adding to the cost of the service ( all in £582) .

Any thoughts on what you guys would do?

Do the shaft. You didnt say how old the bike is but they can seize on the the final drive in months.

Get it done early as I was advised.

I service my own bikes, but the final drive fluid will need changed pronto. There’s usually a few tiny metal flakes that wash up on the magnetic drain plug early days. I just changed my R9T fluid at 1000 miles. Engine oil/ filter too.
I’d definitely do before leaving 👍

That's really not a large amount over, so i'd crack on with your trip and get it done when you're back.

Depending on how mechanically confident you are I’d at the very least get/do a health check done. Brake pads, tyres etc to make sure it’ll last the distance.

We 'did' Norway this Spring....reckoned on c 7k miles, we ended up doing 9k. A diversion route adding miles or a day trip that goes on a bit longer....I'd look at getting it done earlier or getting something in writing that it'll be OK if it is a chunk over the prescribed mileage. I'd just not want to be on a biggish trip and worry at the back of mind about the bikes ervice.

Just to clarify, I fully intend to get the shaft lube etc done but was going to wait til after the trip , about 11k
Had bike from new in December 23.

Blimey that’s some diversion!
Great heads up , thankyou.

Badly worded....should have started a new paragraph for the diversion bit :ROFLMAO:

Maybe just change the oil yourself and get it serviced when you're back. Failing that leave it be and get it booked in now.

Have a safe trip & look forward to hearing all about it,

Nordkapp??

No not all the way, going upto Lofoton islands then heading south on west coast.
Be the biggest trip we’ve done. 👍🏻

In general, I think there is +/- 10% leeway on Service Mileage with most Motorrad Dealers

I was over by 800 miles for the 12k service. No drama.

Your bike has feck all mileage, it’s almost new, leave it until you get back.

I needed my 12k service done but couldn't get it done until after this year's IOM TT. I was over 12000 miles by the time I left, I asked Cotswold BMW and they said that was OK. I think it was on about 15k when I had the service done,

My bike had higher mileage, but was way out on service alignments / mileage ,

My dealer used to do the annual stuff, oil filter at the time interval, and then the milage based bits as a separate service , bit of a faf , but everything balanced up
