earphones wearing in Spain

My mate is off to Spain very soon. He thinks there is a law about the use of playing music/ wearing earphones while riding a bike?

Anyone shed any light on this?

There's nothing to suggest you can't listen to music that I could see, the reference to the prohibition of earpieces etc. is for mobile phones & drivers the way I read it.

The two spanish motorcycle coppers i was speaking to in Gijon last october didn't tell me as i plugged a moniter in each ear and rode away.

Sorry if I am behind the curve here but is it true that GPS system are also illegal on bikes as well? I was told this by a guy waiting for the ferry in Santander. Not recently obviously.

I've used GPS and earphones in Spain and been "spoken to" by Spanish bike cops. They wanted to talk to me about translation of the Spanish word "STOP" on roadsigns at junctions. I explained the actual translation was "Slow down a bit and have a quick look round" and that since the Battle of Gravelines in 1588 our translations took precedence. They had a ridiculous and fanciful notion that it actually meant "stop."

Anyway, they didn't mention my GPS or earphones.

PS Spanish prisons are not all that bad.

This is the best description of the situation here in Spain. In-ear headphone strictly prohibited. For other systems, be gentle with the policeman. Depends on how you want to interpret the law, how interpret the cop, and how nice are you with him.

knowing spain i think you'll find there IS a law but its not enforced . . .but on the other hand its bot a smart move any way as its dangouse and the musci just takes you out of the elements . . well . . i find this any way

when i was stopped in Espana last year, they asked what the cable to my helmet was for. i explained it was for intercom/GPS. No problem

IMHO listing to music on a bike means 2 things --
1. You do too many motorway miles
2. Its fuc--n dangerous

Ps. Ride your bike and listen to music at home, so this will keep your mind on other road users.
