Never done this before just thought I would share it.

I bought a MacBook Pro from Smuzzy on this site and it was delivered today. Its the unibody model that you can upgrade real easy.

I have a MacBook Pro 2015 model and I use time machine on it via a seagate dd. On the set up you get asked if you want to back up from a other source. I decided to try it out and connected my seagate dd. Despite this Mac having the old HDD it didn't take too long to clone.

It was so easy even I managed. Its such a easy method. I am definitely getting a SDD for this machine and may upgrade the ram.

It may be an old machine but some reckon it may be the best to keep long term. We shall see on that one.

If you are switching drives in the future, another good option is to use CarbonCopyCloner.

You can clone the old hard drive on the new one, swap, and you're good to go.

Hope to get the SSD ordered and fitted by the end of next week. The price of these SDD's are reasonable now.

Yes a few options to copy the hard drives, will look forward to it.

I fitted a Samsung evo 850 SSD 250gb to the laptop. I then reinstalled the OS and original files using the time machine. Ive never done this before but I found it straight forward.

I timed the boot up to home screen and these are the results.

HDD 50 sec. SSD 16 sec. So thats a pretty good improvement. Well pleased with it.
