Hi,
I have just moved house and my drive has a bit of a slope to it, and at the moment I'm having to walk my bike (1050 Tiger) down backwards to get it into the garage so that I can ride it back up when I'm going out. The trouble is there's quite a slope on the curb to get to the drive and it's hard work pushing my bike up. I've just ordered the GS Adventure which is subsatntially heavier and think it's going to be a nightmare. Therefore I'm considering getting something like below. Has anyone tried this? If so is it any good, and easy to use? Or can someone else suggest something better?

not tried one of those, but i made my own turntable, cos one i did order my k12gt bust it on the first turnround i did, the bike had been eating all the pies.

i fixed some wood to the top of the turntable, screwed a old rubber car mat, i did look at checker plate but thought better of it.


this only works with a full stand.

have done two of these so far, my brother in law liked mine so much he took it home,

with my gt i have to push down on the rear of the bike to get the front wheel off the ground, some bike its much easier to do.

I assume that you want this for spinning your bike in your garage. Therefore enabling you to ride down your drive, and then spin round ready to ride out again. That would work.

I’ve mastered the art of spinning my GSA around by simply tilting it slightly on its centre stand, then heaving it around its quite easy when have the knack (as long as you have a solid floor, like concrete etc.)

yes it is real cheap, easy to do, in fairness it was recommended to me when i was having trouble turning the bike round,

you do need some room, i manage to turn my bike round just outside the garage, then back it into the garage. i did look at the one you first quoted, but as the driveway is concrete, and not very level, it would wobble all over the place,

when i have ordered the lazy susan, its arrived next day delivery, great service.

the rest the bike on the centre stand and turnround by leaning it against you i have never tried, i am not a huge pie eating bloke, and would hate to see my bike laying on the floor cos i did not have the strength to hold it up. so went down the turntable route.

My drive slopes so would have to turn it in the garage, which has a nice flat concrete floor, and hence looking at the one I posted as I wouldn't have to spin it on the spot. The things worrying me is the price, and how easy it is to use. I'm assuming you bring the centre stand down onto the plate, and I just have visions of raising the bike on the centre stand and skating across the garage and dropping the bike. I know the wheels lock, but wonder if it'd skide across the floor. The GSA ain't exactly the lightest bike in the world, and uses a lot of force on the centre stand to raise it up, and all that force would go through the plate

How about a piece of mild steel plate screwed to the floor (say) 18 inches square where your centre stand goes.
Once up on the stand it should be pretty easy to drag the bike round.

I see they do something a bit more high tech here

Just seen this one, http://www.bikermart.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=PDSCTR07cheaper than the first one I posted, and it has one brake rather than individual ones on each castor. Don't know how strong it is though :-/

I have one of these which I bought from Hein Gericke for around £70. It works very well. You just need to ensure the castor brakes are on when you drive over it to put the bike on as it can slip away easily. There is a brake on each castor. It is a hefty piece of kit though.
I never used it with the GS but I used it with my FJR1300 which was heavier than the GS.

Yes, i had one of these for a similar sort of problem with a pan european. Good bit of kit and worked very well.

Thanks for posting that link, it has the prices on. Am I right in thinking I'll need the 17" one for the GSA? If so that's over £90 as well

Keep a shiny square of lino and on top of it apiece of carpet, this will make turning the bike on the CS a piece of cake.

I'm loving all these make shift devices. I'm glad it's not just me who's a cheap skate and refuses to spend so much money on these things

If I do decide to go for one of these devices can anyone tell me what the width of the centre stand is please so that I don't buy one that's too narrow/small?

'tis said that 2 circles of lino work well - about the size of an LP record, the centre stand spins around from the middle IYSWIM, - not that I've tried.

I've got one of the wunderlich style movers if you want to give it a try before buying one.

I used to use it a lot with the 1100 but since the 04 1200 are front heavy it's a bit of a pain.
I think the stand has been moved on newer ones.

I'm only over in Mosborough and I'm in Chesterfield quite a bit with work so if you want to give it a try I can drop it round.
