I actually tend to agree with this. a beautiful tropical island with all mod cons. Perhaps, one of the spare islands in the Maldives.

Please, please, please lobby your MP's, the media and press (inc the daily Mail) to that end.

My thoughts exactly. I would rather we go and sort it out over there than (if left untreated and uncontested) wait for it to come over here!

A few years ago we had mass panic over the swine flu epidemic. We were running around day and night like blue bottomed flies to any, and every, I'll informed person who sneezed of had an unexplained headache and thought they must have it. I was even called to some people who just had bloody hangovers!

If this disease were to get into the general populous over here I dread to think how on earth we'd cope. S'truth, we're struggling to cope now.

Likewise, I don't want my loved ones worrying about such consequences, which is why I'm all packed ready to go tomorrow for my pre-deployment training, prior to flying to Freetown on the 10th.

If I get the chance I'll send you an personal eyewitness update on exactly how things are over there..... maybe even the odd piccy if I can.

Hats off to you Medicman. I am a relatively brave individual when it comes to facing dangerous situations or individuals but an absolute wreck when it comes to facing disease. The very thought of catching this disease gives me a dose of the shits that would match any you are going to see in Freetown (thankfully without the blood). It is only a reasonable understanding of how this disease is transmitted that has stopped me sealing up the windows and wearing a respirator.

I could never imagine putting myself into the sort of situation you are going to and would like to congratulate you on your efforts and shake your hand ( so long as I was wearing three layers of gloves and full body cover)

I see from today's news that the UK Ebola Nurse, Pauline Cafferkey, is now 'Critical'.

She isn't getting the experimental drug that seems to be effective as there is none available at present.

Joking and banter aside, it would be tragic if someone like her, who puts themselves at great risk in order to help others, wasn't to pull through.

I wish her well.

One hopes for the best but this doesn't look good.

Hi Medicman, best of luck over in Freetown. I'm just back from Chile and Peru in November, having been riding around on a GSA for fun.

Still managed to come back with Malaria though

However, this was 100% my fault as I took no precautions at all before my visit, being the "I'll be fine" type of guy. This experience has taught me a tough lesson and one I'm sure you preach and promote at all times.

I will never ever take a chance like that again after spending 4 weeks puking, shitting and sweating like a rapist, I am now fine.

All it took to fell a 15 stone man was a wee bite on the pinkie!
