Eifel before end of the Year

Anyone interested in a jaunt around the Eifel before then end of the year? Weather usually stays good for a while and most of the tourists will have buggered of by mid / late September. Ferry from Harwich overnight, run down to one of our favourite stops on the Mosel / West Eifel Region, a full days riding there and then back to Hook for Holland for the ferry home.
Example - Friday night boat to Hook of Holland, Ride to Eifel Saturday, Eifel tour Sunday, Monday back to Hook of Holland Ferry, Monday night ferry back to Harwich ....
Just as an idea.......
Before anyone asks no dates in mind.....open to suggestions still but maybe early Septebmer?

I've no holidays left from work or i would be tempted.

Going out Friday to get back Sunday would be a rush.

Post up some routes to give folk an idea of the "bang for the buck", I sometimes have done 4 day jaunts to Luxembourg, as I can set off early on a Friday, be off the Motorways and riding through the Ardennes just after Lunch and in Lux by the days end, have a day riding around Lux on Saturday, then sunday do some more Lux roads before setting off towards home on back roads, leaving a short run to the Tunnel for an easy ride home Monday, gives you 2.5 days good riding from the 4 days / 3 nights.

Sure, here is the suggestion. Hotel is on the Mosel in the small town of Rachtig, Das Altes Schulhaus and is a lovely old converted school house. Comfortable but basic rooms, great reasonably priced food in the evening (EURO 14 for a Schnitzel, fries and salad) and good beer on tap including a nice Weizen. Note the routes start in The Hague but of course can be adjutsed for those coming either from Calais or via the Harwich Ferry

I was thinking of heading over by in September but it would be very late September and into October. Bookmark anyway re that hotel and ta for the tip.

I am in Spain and France end September until early October but open to ideas…..may e a little earlier or even a mid to late October run….

Works OK for a day from Calais, a couple of hours of Motorway, then ride through the Ardennes and Luxembourg for the rest of the journey;

And a slightly quicker return;

Or probably better for most would be spending 2 days either on the way out or the way back, for myself I would go to Folkestone on the Thursday night for an early Friday crossing, then take 2 days coming back stopping a couple of hours from Calais, allowing a more scenic return route, and giving an easier last day with ~2 hours to tunnel and ~2 hours home on the other side.

For anyone in the south east corner of the UK, heading to the Ardennes / Luxembourg or that portion of Germany, the Folkestone / Dover connection would arguably make the most sense.

But I don’t think it’s the OP’s intention to force people to use the North Sea crossing; it’s simply given as an example.

Will it work for a long weekend, if you can spare the time of the overnight crossings via Harwich or further north? Yes.

Will it work for crossings via the Chunnel? Definitely.

Will it work for Dover crossings? Yes, definitely.

Will it work for Cherbourg / Caen / St Malo, probably not.

It’s all down to geography and the inconvenience of a strip of water, I guess. That aside, agree a point if possible, to meet up with the OP and you’ve got an instant holiday, with no more effort than buying a return ticket.

It’s a generous offer. Bods should take it up.

If time is the issue then the best options do seem to be ferry, not only from Harwich but also from Hull. Advantage is the travel is overnight so no riding time lost. Get on in Harwich say on Friday night and be off at 0800 and ride down through Holland.
I also have to get there from The Hague which is, give or take, 35 km equi-distant for Europoort and / or Hook of Holland
@Doc is an expert on getting to Cochem which is about 30km up the river from my proposed hotel.

We normally ride to just south of Eindhoven on the motorway, stop for a drink and then head down into Germany via Roermond which is quite a nice ride down through the German Eifel area. Back is similar.

If time is not a problem then people could takes as much time as they want there and back but can meet at the hotel for the tour around the Eifel
It’s all just an idea….
