Electric Paranoia

My 2002 1150 GSA has been sat for a year (outside under cover) whilst I have been focussed on other things. I'm jut getting round to getting it back up and running and noticed the fuel pipes were cracked so I'm replacing them.

In the process of removing the tank, I noticed a couple of the connectors were nice and green and a couple of the wire protection wraps around the loom were good and mouldy.

On top of this, the whole bike is covered in brick dust etc. from etc building work.

So questions:
Whilst getting this back together, is there anything I can do to test the integrity of the wiring?
Is there anything I should do (to the electrics) when putting the bike back together (e.g. WD40 to connectors?)
Should I bother attempting to clean the gibbons under the tank (covered in dust and cobwebs) or is this asking for trouble!!

Did you mean there's brick dust under the tank all over? If it's dry, maybe you could carefully vacuum off the worst of it. This would force you to look carefully at all the parts as you went, thereby giving it an inspection for anything else that might be amiss.

DO NOT USE WD40!! It degrades rubber bits especially the little rubber gaitors in the switches

A better idea!

Cracking open the connectors one at a time and giving a squirt of ACF50 would be a very good idea

Once finished but before you refit the tank, blow a mist of ACF 50 over everything

And if the underside of the tank is getting a bit rusty? Fuel pump flange and at the edges ??

Use Black waxoyl and just give it a coat

Undoing (If you can) the 4 alternator drive belt cover bolts, slipping the plastic cover off and see if your belt is cracking (old age!) and that the adjusting bolts actually move
The refit the cover and give the bolts a smear with anti seize paste

I use Cyclo Anti Seize just had a VERY rough and scruffy R1150RT which is ridden all year around and I've sorted it for about 8 years now under the fairings everything is coated in grease and waxoyl etc
Whilst it looks messy Everything and I mean everything that I needed to undo or move, all moved with no fuss y
