I have a 2005 R1200GS with 20,000 miles on it. Recently I have been having electrical problems with all of the handlebar functions. When the ignition is turned on but the bike is not started, all buttons and switches function just fine (turn signals, headlamps, horn, etc.). When I crank the bike none of those function. I still have functional gauges (speedometer, tach, etc.) but turn signals, horn, brake light, etc. will not work. If I have turn signal on before I start the bike.....after starting I am unable to cancel the turn signal.
Suggestions please. Thank you.

Is the bike cranking over normally as you would expect or is it a bit sluggish? If it is a bit sluggish then I would suspect the battery is on the way out as low voltage can cause odd things to happen in the electrics. How old is the battery?
