Electrical question

If, during the POST, power on self test, of the lights, a low beam globe has failed or shows failure, does the control module disconnect, power down, that particular circuit?

Two reasons for this question.
If you have an extra fog light slaved via a relay from the low beam headlight circuit, when the headlight globe fails, if the module powers down that circuit then it seems to me that you will also lose the foglight.

I'm seeing a headlight globe failure signal on the RID but my eyes and my multimeter are telling me that the globe is okay but it doesn't light up and I can't measure a voltage at the connector. My foglight will not light up either and I believe the globe to be okay. I have tried a new globe in the low beam headlight with no sucess.

My high beam headlight works okay.

I have a pdf file showing the electrical system of the bike but the ZF control module is, of course, just a "black box".

I think you are correct. Also, I have found, if a bulb blows, you have to turn off the ignition before the bike will recognise a replacement.

You may just have a loose connection. Try wiggling the wires going into the bulb connector.

Well, the electrical gremlins have struck again.
I swapped the globes, high to low beam.
Both worked i.e. lit up but I still had the failed globe warning on the RID.
Stopped and started the beast twice and the failure signal went away.

It's cold and dark now and my shed isn't heated so I'm giving it away for this evening. The first thing I want to do tomorrow is go for a ride and I
don't want to stuff around trying to answer my own query as to if the foglight will work if the low beam globe fails.
So, if anybody has an answer, I'll be happy to read it and then decide if I need to make a wiring change.

I seem to have gotten past that problem somehow.
I've had the headlight/instrument assembly out to thoroughly check it after having tried for loose connections.
I also switched the ignition but I have found in the past, that it pays to acually start the engine and let it run for 30 seconds or so to be sure that all faults are cleared.

One thing that I will say, once you take a careful look at things, I'm pleased at how easy it is to remove things to work on them.
The headlight/instrument assembly can be removed by unplugging the headlight connector (push in the small steel clip), instrument cluster connector (two plastic locking tabs top and bottom) and popping out the small parking light . Then, remove the two torx bolts, one each just behind the indicators, lift a few millimetres to pop the post out of the rubber grommet at the bottom of the headlight assy and the whole assembly can be drawn out from the front of the bike.
That info is for anybody who may read this post and wonder/need to do the same thing one day.
 
Sometimes you have to disconnect the battery for a few minutes to clear faults. A quick disconnect won't always do it.
