What type of connectors are best to use when doing the electrics. I have often used the red/blue crimp ones but they never look that good and I'm never confident in their longevity. Are there better crimps/tools to use?

+1 on Vehicle wiring products

It's worth paying the extra for the proper tools as well.

MP71 for non insulated crimps - these are much cheaper then the insulated crimps so you soon cover the cost of the tool. They match the originals as well if you use the rubber boots on them.

They also sell many of the connectors used on BMW's http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-onlinestore/connectors/housings.php#ap

The crimps you mention are OK especially if it's for things you may wish to disconnect at a later date but make sure you use good quality crimps, and a good quality crimping tool is not to be sniffed at either.

Vehicle Wiring Products are your friend. :thumb2

What a great site - I never realized you could get all those block connectors and everything.

As Rob suggests I'll get the non insulated with the covers and the correct tool. I hate having gaudy looking coloured connectors :aidan

Hi

Another vote for VWP. Well worth investing in the proper ratchet crimp tool. I only use solder where necessary, crimps everywhere else.

VMP - great web site - great prices. Everything seams quite cheap so I ordered a few of everything - wow and that stacked up to a huge bill!!

They delivered next day!

Now set up to probably build 20 bikes over the next 20 years!!

Thanks for the pointers

For a two pole connector Maplin do the Tamiya connector which is generally the connector used on battery optomisers, and heated grips. Neat and fairly small, and available of the shelf. Also available cheaper on ebay.

I generally crimp and solder them.
