It's just that you get all the tool gubbins from Mapsource with it. I've actually found that, if you Adobe Writer, you can print to an Adobe file and attach that. Attached as an example.
Save it onto desktop, then open it in Imageready or paint or any other prog....crop th window then sae it again..yes it is two steps but it only takes 30 secs to produce a .jpg of the route.
Another option is to produce the route in something like MS Autoroute...you can then save it as a .jpg directly......or some of the free online route planners allow the same.
A couple of suggestions/ideas:
1) Try a screen capture tool like Screen Grab Pro (which is freeware), which will allow you to capture a region of the screen (Select top left, and bottom right). http://www.traction-software.co.uk/screengrabpro/ and copy it to the clipboard, or save it out as PDF, JPG, BMP, etc..
2) Save the route you want as a GPX file and send it to your Pal.. They can open it up and have a look in GoogleEarth (http://earth.google.com/). Tracks don't seem to show up well, but WayPoints are fine..
