emails open in gibberish

I have tried to open some email attachments, only word docs, but they just have a bunch of letters and gibberish in them.

how do i get them to open in english please?

Are you sure they are word documents and your opening them in word? Sounds like your opening something in the wrong software or they are actually binaries.

Could be a corrupted file problem.
Any possibility that you have an old version of Word and document was from a much new version? My local council got gibberish when they tried to read emails from me. They use an ancient version of Word.
Try forwarding the email to another computer with Word and opening it on that.

They are word docs.or possibly pdf .How do i open them in word if they are not opening in word.

PDF and word Docs are completely different things and will explain what is happening if your trying to open a pdf in word.
Use acrobat or foxit pdf reader for them both free.

Older versions of MS Word can't read docx files. You can get a file converter at Microsoft.com
