Somebody has offered to email me an instruction manual that is 47mb. Now I don't understand computers and megabytes an' fings, but could it be that 47mb is a lot to send in an email? I ask because I can't send or receive anything all of a sudden. I just tried to send myself a test email and it's still in the Outbox, could it be that it's struggling with a large incoming email?

that is almost certainly the problem.

that is way too big a file to send via email. should have used some kind of file hosting service such as dropbox.

you'll just have to wait it out now until it either downloads, or spontaneously aborts.

Bbb..whatthefu ... bloody hell, that was quick!

"Spontaneously aborts", eh? how long would that take, minutes, hours, days? More?:eek

About this dropbox, what's that, then?

And thank you both, stunning service!:beerjug:

could take ages :(

there is a way to stop the download, but it's a very long time since i've had to do it, and i can't remember the drill. it's not that simple IIRC.

Oh dear. I'm waiting for a rather important email regarding a change of plan re accommodation on our forthcoming holiday... well a long story, but you get my drift. I can wait hours, but days would be a problem. Do you know where I can find out about aborting the incoming monster email? I could pm the sender- he's on UKGSer and has very generously scanned a lathe manual for me in response to my appeal for help and is emailing it. Is aborting it something he would be likely to be able to do or is it tricky even from his end? Every so often I'm gobsmacked by how helpful people on here can be.

If it helps I've just clicked on the Local Area Connection Status icon and the connection speed is 100Mbps.

Set a new gmail email address up, takes five minutes. Give this address to the holiday people. Job done.

Yabbut... I can't get them to reply to my emails, they are Italian and in fact I have got the Italian Tourist Office to translate a message to them in case it's a language issue. I also sent a printed version of the email to them by AirMail, the man at the Post Office said it would take three to five days for them to get it.:spitfire What it is is that our daughter wants to fly down and join us in Venice for a couple of days while we are there. (Including Anna in our plans is always a recipe for disaster, mind. We never learn.) And the later she makes the booking for the flight the more expensive it gets.

Sorry about that, you didn't need to know about that I know, I thought I might feel better after a moan. I don't really, though.

Correction.
  1. Your suggestion makes complete sense.
  2. My reply didn't.
Accordingly I shall look into setting up a new gmail address.

I thank you.:beerjug:

Assuming you are using Outlook or the like, can you logon to your email via a web browser, i.e. direct to your ISP using webmail or something like that.

If you can you can then delete the offending email and tell the guy who's sending it to stick the file on a CD and post it.

I often use yousendit.com
It is specifically designed for this purpose.
There are other sites also such as hugefile.com that do the same things

Sorted

I phoned my Service Provider BT and they sorted it in less than five minutes. Result! Thank you gentlemen. :beerjug:
