Whatever the outcome I wish Andrew well on his return journey - look forward to the trip report :thumb2

Can't beleive Micky would be so shady to have sold snoops a dog, bet he won't sleep tonight :augie

ps Although in terribly bad taste, please note that this is a joke comment and in no way represents the actual truth. Micky's bike was a good one and he is a fine upstanding fellow with an unblemished reputation. The luck of the snoopster is appauling, let's hope it's not to big a problem and fellow tossers from this site can guide the poor chap in the right direction to get this issue solved both cheaply and effectively. The deal with the devil must seem like a poor choice for Snoops right now,

The water (coolant) pump (found on LHS front engine) is known weak point. Coolant leaks past the internal seals - into the engine oil. Get him to check the oil for contaminants (it'll be whiteish in the oil tank).

Good luck...........

Pretty much what i was just about to post, masquarades as a blown head gasket.

Also, if possible try filling the header tank (the clear plastic bottle) with coolant. then run the bike with the cap removed. If the head gasket has gone then you should see bubbles coming out of the coolant, if there are no sign of bubbles then it could well be the water pump seals.

Any decent garage should be able to put a probe in to this and check for hydrocarbons in the coolant.

I hope andrew gets home fine!

OVERHEATING INTERNAL PROBLEM.
ITS BEEN RECOVERED TO A RENAULT GARAGE ALL OTHERS SHUT.
ANTIBIOTICS KICKING IN.
COVERED IN OIL AND FLUIDS IN POSH BAR IN VITORIA:D

THINGS ARE LOOKING UP :augie

water pump

Could be a shot water pump if oil chocolaty foamy- If so that's a longer job to replace- and you'll need spare seal/impeller etc.
and you'll need to get past the solid oil return line (which 650 riders normally will get rid of because of inaccessibility problems).

You could also just have run dry and need to refill coolant to the job.
If that's the case, check all clips for tightness first and hoses for splits.
You could also have an air lock - a known cause for overheating/engine blown. (assuming it hasn't!)
I'll assume your fan is working-
There is an air bleed nipple on the top right hand side near cylinder head cover.

If you refill your rad from header tank - do so very slowly with rad cap open then lean bike over and close rad cap, lean angle a good 45 degrees and release nipple until coolant comes out on its own.

for part numbers etc check here with your own bike details

good luck

Hi all,

Here's what happened - riding along at 75mph when the engine overheat light comes on. Notice left side of bike covered in watery substance. Pull over and strip plastics and there is no liquid in the semi transparent container. Buy some and refill. 100mtrs down the road happens again.

The fluid is being forced through the nipple on lid. The first time the force popped the lid off, 2nd time I cable tied it thinking it was weak.

There are no leaks anywhere. Oil is normal working colour.

It's going to a BMW dealer on Monday I will pass Waldens information on :thumb2.

Cheers,

Andrew

Sounds like it's boiling over. You say the fan's working? Did you replace the coolant at some point just before all this? It's possible you may have got an airlock. May be the thermostat sticking.

I'll have to give my brother a clip for saying that. :D

Turns out the water pump has failed. BMW charging about £155 to fix it dunno if that's reasonable or not.
