Emergency Tyre Repair

Yo,

I'm travelling abroad at the moment and my front tyre has been damaged with a hole/rip which is about the size of my small finger almost on the sidewall of the tyre. I have an R1200GS on TCK80 (tubeless) tyres. The hole has been plugged at the moment with that sticky crap you jam into the hole. I need to travel about a 1000kms to get to the next major city where I can arrange new tyres but the repair looks pretty sketchy. I do have an inner tube that I can put in, but I've never done this before.

Anyone have any comments/suggestions/instructions about using a tube in a tubeless tyre and how to go about it would be greatly appreciated.

if its working at the moment,then leave it alone,if it goes down get your tyre levers out by the side of the road and crack on,your not supposed to put an iner tube in where its tubless ,but hey if it gets you there what the hell,dont forget you will have to remove the tubless valve .

No matter where you are with that problem you need tools /levers/knowledge
I woulkd imagine you dont have levers with you Just find a tyre shop/garage
and get him/her to do it - and watch what they dooooo

also if you do do it your self dont forget the bike is front heavy,so have some support under the bash plate ,or the bike will fall on it its forks when you take the wheel out.

I woulkd imagine you dont have levers with you Just find a tyre shop/garage

I imagine if he has had the foresight to take a tube then he will also have taken some levers? Good luck hope it works out for you.

you could always... stuff the tyre full of grass....

And smoke the inner tube, won't have the same effect though

Yes, I have tyre levers etc and have changed and balanced many tyres before. The problem is its a large hole on the side wall which is quite dangerous. I am unable to get a replacement tyre so need a repair that is reliable and safe until I'm in a city where I can arrange some new ones.

Having said that, I have put it the tube no dramas - easier than I thought. Should be fine till I get me some new tyres in a week or so.
