End of season SALE deals on the 1190 Adventure?

Bob .....

Ahhh goodness, I'm not for one minute saying that the BM is quicker - we all know that the 1190 will leave it for dust top end. What I'm saying is that on the roads I tend to migrate to, there would not be a lot in it. Super bike mag in south Africa did a load of testing and there's about a tenth of a second between them over 1/4 mile. The BM consistently beats it in roll on tests.
So in terms of torque and low to mid range grunt (think open the gas out the corner) the BM has the early jump on the KTM ...... until all that KTM power kicks in :D.

B500 Black forest? Bye bye BMW ..... KTM will just disappear. The B roads off the B500?? (some of the best roads I've ridden..!) ... now were in a different ball game and its down to short squirt grunt, brakes, suspension and handling. It would be neck and neck :D

My desire is not all about speed  It's a bigger picture than that, I guess I know the BM is a good bike (it is - it's a bloody good bike ....) but I don't love it. I've never patted it on the tank and winked at it .... :D.

I tried both the standard .............. We'll see....

Thanks for taking the time ..... interesting reading and backs up Andres' comments about pillions and seats. Good suspension is worth ten or fifteen horse power .... :thumb2

at the TT on mad sunday there was a french guy two up on a 1190 and he was flying, i thought i could plod on a bit on the LC but i and the bike was well out of the comfort zone trying to keep up, very impressive

surely you just need to change down a gear? it's part of the fun :)

Yes .... !

I'm not defending the BM in any way, I'm most certainly not like Nutty (:D) and I have no allegiance or loyalty to BM. Just pointing out that on a cross country 'chase' (on the roads I like to play on and not the IOM circuit ..!) then 'speed' won't really come into it.

*On the phone to my local dealer at the mo!! It's touch and go .... !!

S'funny how some people don't get on with the electro suspenders on the standard model. One of the main selling points when I had my test ride was the quality of the suspension. I found, and still do, that the different modes do change how it feels and honestly, apart from the stonking engine, was a deal maker and I have no regrets about buying the standard against the S model. Still, horses for courses and maybe I am the riding god I think I am.....:toungincheek

i think i'm a bit of a stickler for decent suspension, and i was deeply suspicious of the apparently lower spec units on the S model. however when i tried them i found they did the job pretty well, nearly as good as my GSA wilbers. maybe a bit softer in comfort mode, but i saw that as a plus.

i like the fact i have the seat set high, but still get both balls of my feet on the ground.

but

the forks dive a bit. thought that was normal after 12 years with a telelever.

i've not done much with them 2 up. during the demo i couldn't alter the load settings, i didn't know you had to be stationary, so just banged the damping up a bit and it coped pretty well with mrs cookie on the back. any way, it still remains to be seen if it can cope with a loaded bike 2 up in the alps. i hope it will :)

she was quite happy with the comfort and liked being slightly raised cos she got a better view. she is a very good pillion, great anticipation and never hangs on, at least until now. the ktm is ferocious under acceleration in a way my twin cam could not dream of.

ps. i'm sort of hoping the electric suspendies can be useful in keeping the headlight pointed where it should be under load, cos i can tell you adjusting the throw is a very bastard of an operation, officially involving tools and removal of body panels. no handy lever for quick adjustment here, oh no.

pps. the headlight is pretty good compared to the hexhead fitting i thought.

I'm just at a bit of a crossroads with my GS that's all ...... :thumb2

Mid life moment if ever I heard one.....life is too short, so you need to enjoy your time to the max, whichever bike you ride. If I had the dough, I'd keep my GS cos I've had it for 5 years now & love it, the EXC would remain for my off roading nonsense.....but I'd go & get a 6XX so I could take it abroad and spank it on/off road :D

Yes all the trips I have planned require a 6XX.
Morocco in spring, Iceland in Summer then I want to ride gravel roads all the way to from S Norway to Nord Cap and back.
A decent 6xx is the perfect bike.
