Engine clean

Been giving my 89 R100GS the once over and have concluded she’s further down the ‘slippery slope’ than the OPs. I’ve had the bike since 1990 and she did get a bit of a refurb about 12 years ago (how time flies). I had planned to do some work on her over last winter but various things got in the way and apart from inflating the tyres, charging and refitting the battery and topping up the oil, nothing has been done. We’ll probably use her for local trips this summer and hopefully get round to a bit of a refurb next winter.

I did buy some aerosol epoxy satin black which I’m hoping will do a good job on the rear subframe and pannier frames. Had a look for the Simoniz tough paint recommended but it seems to be unavailable.

I've been doing the same with my R80 outfit, in another thread. I just rubbed down the bad bits and used Kurust and hameright smooth. Looks 100% better than the 'no paint just rusty' look of before. but I'm not looking for anything other than tidy, err ish.

People will pay a lot of money so it seems for that rust look. Just look at the "Bike Shed".
