I started my bike 2 hours after washing it.give it a nice warm up,and 1 km down the road, engine started to cut out.tried to twist the throttle to compensate for loss of thrust, but unsuccessful, i tried to pull over to the road shoulder and engine stalled while i was filtering to the road shoulder.switch off the ignition and on again, unable to start the bike.but did notice the rpm needle was swinging throughout the rev range. What could be the problem?

i am guessing, maybe there is water in the hall sensor or some other electrical component but i might be wrong.any suggestion?

can you hear the fuel pump running when you turn on the ignition and flick up the sidestand?

If not spray the sidestand switch with water repellent WD40 or similar product and see what happens then

If there is still no luck spray the kill / start switch with loads of repellent

Do these things one at a time so you can see what was the fault instead of doing lots at once!

fuel pump and starter motor is working, able to crank but engine will not start.

Read your first post again

Why warm the bike The manual says get on and ride it!

Well if it's cranking and you can hear the fuel pump running have you tried flushing both switches with WD40 ???? If not Do So and try again

No result ??? Back to basics then

Take out plugs and ground them and see if you have a spark??

If not? remove the tank and seperate the electrical connectors and flush any water out with a WD40 type lubricant re~attach and retry

Sorry but it's a bit difficult to diagnose from way up here and if you have done all the above and still have no result I would strongly suspect the Flicking Revcounter sounds like the hall sensors have a problem

Do a Search for hall effect sensors and if you're feeling adventurous web search "2AV54"

There is another little known reason
water in fuel tank...after being washed:augie spesh' if with power washer :blast
It has happened before:o and as oil [petrol] floats on top of water, it don't take much to cause the exact problem he's got.....
Drain off fuel [or at least lower part of] and see how it goes:rob

PS. this was found out by the almighty St Eptoe a couple of years ago

I.but did notice the rpm needle was swinging throughout the rev range. What could be the problem?

Was there also a "buzzing" noise ?

Needle swinging around is a sign of the hall sensor playing up. Dry the connection ( under the front of the petrol tank) or spray it with WD40.

i don't know but i don't think so.will try spraying the hall sensor connector.

Hall sensors.Mine done exactly the same thing on Monday night in the pissing rain 100 miles from home.It started again and got me home after a couple of hours, and then on Tuesday, cleaned the connectors up and blew all the crap of them, and no more problems:thumb2

Had this twice after washing the bike and both times it was the connector for the Hall sensor locate under the tank. Don't quite understand how the water manages to find it's way in there but on both occasions split the connector and simply blew the water out and the bike fired up and ran fine.

just took out the connector and clean it with wd40(suprisingly no water was present in the connector),sad to say the bike still refuse to start.looks like it's beyond my technical ability, going to tow my 1100gs
to a bike shop tomorrow.should know the outcome by then.will update with latest info.

Did you do the Sidestand switch and the kill switch and the other things that we suggested?
yes,i did but the bike still would not start.anyway,as mention from my earlier post,i towed my bike in to my local bike shop.they confirm it's the hall sensor.luckily i got a used one that i got from ebay a few months back.bike is up and running.now ,is there anyway i could do to savage back the Unservicable sensor ?

Only if you know which one it was and are good with a soldering iron

Search for "2av54" on the net
