2005 R1150GS bought 4 months ago with 45000 miles & no history.

Recently with the drier roads and consequently using more revs, I'm seeing engine oil dripping from the throttle bodies after a ride. My first thought is that maybe the rings are past their best and it's blowing oil up into the airbox which is draining down into the cylinders.

I can't find anything in the manual about cylinder compression pressures, but at 10.3:1 CR should I expect 14psi x 10.3 = 144psi when cranking on the starter?

Anyone got an alternative idea on whats wrong with it.

There is a plug on the rear lower left hand side of the air filter box, it is located just above the footpeg. Undo this plug and let the oil out, if the engine was ever over filled the extra oil gets blown back into filter box.

Are you sure it's oil? It could be gas leaking if you removed the TB's from the engine and then re-used the existing large 0-rings...

Dan.

mine had loads of oil inside the bodies when i took them off, drained loads of oil out the airbox. but for you to see oil outside you must have a leak, its probably sucking in 'dirty air' aswell that isnt good,

you must have a leak
. You're right - another job to add to the list.

Having taken out a cupful of oil yesterday - the airbox had some in when I opened the drain valve and I ran a bit more out of the sump, things are better this morning.

Thanks, Mark
