No, not an oil debating thread, but where can I buy Castrol GP (Castrol ActEvo GP 4T) for my 1200GSA at a realistic price? So far, I can only find it at BMW Dealers for about 9 pounds a litre. I e-mailed Castrol but got no response.

Someone must retail 4L without breaking the bank or does everyone run standard 10-40 GTX?

Is there an alternative that BMW won't say affects the warranty?

I use Castrol GPS Power 1 (10/40 Semi-Synthetic) which is what I've seen being used at more than one BMW dealer. I've just bought a 4 litre bottle for my next service from Halfords Newbury for £28.95

Thanks for this - it's the first place I have seen even say there is a 4L version of the 20/50. Since they do free delivery on 50 pound orders and over, and the 4L is 25 pounds I may well buy two!

Not according to the website. If you look a little closer you will see there is a pull down box on the 20/50 weight oil to select either 1L or 4L.

Having said this I'm going to query before ordering.

The Castrol 20/50 stuff can be got from any good on-line shop - Nippys, M&P, MPS etc. You're being ripped off if you are paying anymore than £8 per litre (inc. P&P) - dealers do charge over the odds, over £9, but after a service they might be willing to throw in a litre FOC - but some this might be an alien concept to some dealers.

Better take your own container then, most dealers I've seen decant their oil from large bulk drums.

This is true but the postage charges on 1L bottles suck. Opie oils price is OK with the discount but the postage still hurts. The only place even advertising a 4L 20/50 GP is the Visorshop, which makes me wonder if it's a mistake.

Is this some kind of cartel set up with BMW and Castrol? I have allways used Castrol in all of my bikes for 30 years and I usually do an interim oil change at half the recommended mileage so this is expensive to say the least.

My local car/halfords shops just give me strange looks - nothing new there then!

Ive ordered the 4L oil from Visorshop (I also ordered a few little extras to avail of the free shipping).

They were out of stock for the 4L drums at the time, so they just sent me 4 1L bottles for the same price. Crissis over and no probs.

No need - mine hasn't used a drop in 3,000 miles. Level still at the top of the sightglass where it has been since I bought the bike. Therefore, the Litre I bought at a dealer is now my top up should I ever need it!

Funny, this is what I got from that link:

"Act-evo GP 4T 20w/50 1 litre for BMW shaft driven motorcycles 7.49"

Thats what I'm buying 8 litres of for 50 quid delivered.

yep, can't explain that, I printed a copy off yesterday and it says 5.49 on my copy, now it says 7.49 on the link....oh well, will be ordering the same next week.

Took delivery of 8 Litres of 20/50 GP Acto stuff. Interestingly, having ordered from Visorshop, the product shipped from Castrol anyway and as per Hatchet it wasn't in 4 Litre containers but 8 x 1 Litre bottles. So makes a 1 Litre price of 6.25 delivered which is the best I have found it anywhere.
