how many cases of oil related engine probs have i seen on this board in 3 years of viewing?

one. possibly.

i seem to remember mickRW having shagged big ends on an 1150 that may or may not have been caused by some oil issue (lack of, probably).

i think it's usually dodgy quality control at bmw, lack of maintainance or owner incompetance.

oil quality is not really an issue IMO.

My thoughts exacly.

Except gear box and final drive of course - those systems are "natively" fragile i think.
