Had my Brand New GS lC Exclusive a couple of months now It sounds fine on start up when cold but when warm the engine is very noisy. It is to me almost embarressing thinking people will say what the hell when waiting at Zebra crossings etc.
Took it in for 600 mile service and the head technician at Linds Norwich said oh they all do that his did to . It isnt an engine rattle but the fuel metering or something at the top back of the engine.
Ive done around 1500 miles blasted it round the Black Forest its no worse no better .
This is my 4th 1200 and had 2 1150's and none made a noise anything out of the ordinary but my first LC
Just wondered if others are noisy when warm and if they do all in fact sound like that .Unfortunately not heard another running when warm.

Cheers R.R.

Mine is, almost sounds like dry sloppy chain.

I wear custom earplugs with filter, so can still hear intercom, music etc. Great bit of kit. Ohh and i also use them for work. Dual purpose, one price

Yes that'd be it but why would they releas something as noisy as that for Christs sake hardly cheap are they lol

Yes but I never needed to wear earplugs on any of the others although I often did

On my second lc and in this case dealer is not telling porkies, in comparison with an 1150 or a 1200tc the water cooled models ratlle like utter b@stards.

They can when hot and in traffic sound like they are about to go off like a grenade but are fine , just a noisy motor

As all of the above have said. I use plugs, it then sounds smooth ish then.

Yeap , makes me sounds like a sewing machine .

I still love it though

Just a thought but does it make any difference with the octane of fuel your using?

I'm thinking something on the lines of an a knock from combustion??

L

Ride an airhead, then you will know what rattles are.

You LC boys have it easy.

That’s one of the reasons I went back to an F800. I couldn’t stand the bloody racket from the engine. I found it impossible to ride without proper foam earplugs. On the plus side I now have a bike with a lovely gearbox that shifts like butter and neutral is a doddle to find - and before all you 2017 update model owners chime in, the Rallye I tried was smoother than previous years but still crap compared to almost any other bike!

One has to wonder what draws you to the water-cooled section...?

I've had air heads never rattled anywhere near like this as long as everyone's else's sounds like mine I'll live with it lol

Mine's exactly the same. Took it back after 2 days and they tell me they all do that....running in oil blah blah blah. I'll see what it sounds like after the first service.

Sorry to burst anyones bubble but it will just get noisier the more miles it does, they are a noisy engine .............end of

I am on my second liquid cooled Gsa and it is much noisier plus more rattling than the first one. What is more concerning is a harsh vibe between 2500 and 3000 rpm which did not happen on the last one. At the first service only weeks ago I was called into the workshop and they explained the shaft drive had to come out and be freed off with heat as it had stiff point when the wheel was turned. I thought that would cure the vibration but it didn't.

I am very disappointed with this bike, I have lost count how many Gs's I have owned over the years and still have a Gs 1100 which runs so sweet. The racket from this Lc does not inspire convience if I was setting off on a European trip.

When I booked in for my first service I was told the running in oil was piss thin and it might be why its so noisy. When I arrived for the service I met the technician who straight away said it isn't a mechanical rattle as in the engine but the fuel system so don't hold your Edventure lol.
I hope they told you like they did me apparently BMW are now very strict concerning the 600 miles you must be within 10% ie 540 /660 not sure of the cosequences possibly your warrenty.
