Engine Rattles

Rattles? noisy tyres? Wind noise from screen? I don't hear any of this stuff everyone seems to go on about. Am I going deaf? eh what?

When I booked in for my first service I was told the running in oil was piss thin and it might be why its so noisy. When I arrived for the service I met the technician who straight away said it isn't a mechanical rattle as in the engine but the fuel system so don't hold your Edventure lol.
I hope they told you like they did me apparently BMW are now very strict concerning the 600 miles you must be within 10% ie 540 /660 not sure of the cosequences possibly your warrenty.

Strange that, as the service book for my 2017 lc says between 500km (310mls) and 1200km (745mls).

North Oxford told me as close to the upper limit as I could get, but not to exceed it.....I ended up having it done when it had done 712 mls.

Yes they rattle

I had a new 2014 r1200gs there was plenty engine noise and tyre noise. I just got fed up with the racket. ( the intermittent suspension fault didn't help)

I went back to a 2011 twin cam, a lot quieter. A few weeks ago after hearing all the praise lavished on the latest gs I tried the demo out.

Yes the gearbox and suspension were good. As for the noise, it was exactly as I remembered.

That’s one of the reasons I went back to an F800. I couldn’t stand the bloody racket from the engine. I found it impossible to ride without proper foam earplugs. On the plus side I now have a bike with a lovely gearbox that shifts like butter and neutral is a doddle to find - and before all you 2017 update model owners chime in, the Rallye I tried was smoother than previous years but still crap compared to almost any other bike!

My 2016 LC is one of the best boxes ive had , no clunks , super easy N and smooth as silk and getting better the more i thrash it. For the record its noisy as well but that's how they are , i try not to worry too much as its such a great bike to ride and i also use plugs
