Quick question, just had a complete engine and drive train replaced due to corrosion on a march 13 lc. BMW have benn excellent and so far have exceeded my expectations, as an added bonus the gear box on this engine feels slicker. My question is what warranty can I expect now on my new engine. The service guy did not have an awnser for me and is checking it out, just like to know where I stand before I get the official awnser. Meanwhile I'm running in a new engine, result.

If a part failed at month 23 then the replacement part would have 1 months warranty based on the vehicle having a 24 months manufacturers warranty

I suppose it comes down to whether or not BMW consider a complete engine to be a replacement part? but I would have thought that under your circumstances BMW would have a different procedure in place

Service guy should have known. What did they do? Was it a new engine or a new case with the old internals? It's bad form that the service department were not up to speed on this. Jjh

You do not get any extra warranty whilst the bike has warranty in place, if your existing warranty had expired and the replace is a gesture of goodwill or expired as the fitting was being carried, if you offer to contribute say the value of one hrs labour or what ever you think is appropriate you will get 2 yr warranty on the replacement item, not many no this and the dealers are reluctant to tell you.

I have done the above, i had a new engine in a f800gs after corrosion, the bike was a week out of warranty when the work carried out, i contributed and got 24 months, also k1200r needed gearbox (jumped out of gear at 90mph) and the clutch pack, warranty had expired as a gesture of goodwill BMW replaced said items, i contributed and got warranty on all items replaced.

This is correct, but it's not just 1 hours labour it's any contribution toward the repair, so if they ask you to pay for the oil then you have warranty on the unit in the same way as if you paid the whole bill, not sure if it's 2 years though (but it might be)

I'm sure its 2yrs but I'm not 100% now as it was some time ago so don't hold me to it, things may have changed. Pay as little as Daffy states, i was always more than happy to contributed so did not mind paying £££ towards something that cost ££££.

My bike had the engine, gearbox and clutch changed at 9000 miles and I was told the warranty would not be altered so it remains as the original date of registration.

At 15 mths and 9500 klm my clutch nut came off and damaged the gearbox, cam chain and put metal into the engine oil.

BMW Australia offered a new gearbox & engine along with a 2 year warranty extension and free service up to 20,000 klm, free tyres and brakes and the use of a hire car. This was great except the warranty & service deal were not transferable to the next buyer so I rejected this and was instead given a healthy amount on top of my trade to trade up to a new 14 or 15. I decided to wait a few more mths until the 15 lands in November, next week, finally!

I did make a fuss with both the dealer and BMW Australia and that is how I was presented with these reasonable offers.
