Engine won't keep alive!

My new to me GSA has just died, rode it back from the previous owner 200+ miles and a few trips locally; went to visit mate in London and it died. Started ran rough and feebly then dies just like the video in this post. Have a Halls Sensor sourced from James Sherlock tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Was expecting good things from a Bimmer but so far in one weeks ownership of her she is behaving like my 916!!

I hope the Halls fixes the problem and restores my faith in her. She has 30K on her and has almost full BMW dealership service history the last being 18months ago on a 25K service.

How common is this sensor problem? I heard they went a lot on the 1100?

Forry your vid on You Tube of this helped, so thanks for that

I was wondering the same thing? And what makes them fail - after all they're just a solid state component. There seems to be some vague correlation between failure and pressure washing/riding through heavy rainfall, but maybe that's coincidence. Be interesting to know what actually fails in them...

It was the Hall's Sensor, yipppee she's back on the road.

Now with a newly fitted Y piece, Remus Genesis can with K&N filters all round! Just going to pick her up now.....

Usually, the wiring from the two magnetic pickups back to the Motronix.....It's on the front of the engine and can get hot...the wires seem to get brittle and fail with the vibration.

And/or through age, most failures seem to be on older bikes:thumb

So does that mean it's not actually the sensors that fail and could they then be re-wired maybe using some wire more able to cope with heat/vibration?

Yes I think it can be rewired there is a post on a previous page indicating what shielded wiring to purchase.

My bike is running very well.:D
