Ok, all the important presents are bought, but I needed to get one or 2 more:(
Did a search on on this, but looks like the symptons with mine are different.

I've a 2006 1200gsa with servo brakes, 2 days ago it wouldn't start. Turned the key, everything happened as normal, went through the diagnostics, fuel pump whirred, warning lights went off etc. But when I pressed the starter button, it turned over a little bit, but not enough for the engine to start. Any time I pressed the starter button I got a click, but no starter turning over. After a few times, no joy so left it.
Tried it last night and it started first time. I wasn't going anywhere, but just let it run for 5 minutes then took the key out thinking it's sorted.
But then this afternoon I tried it again. Same as 2 days ago. It almost started, the engine started to kick into life on the first press of the starter. Same happened on the second press, but after that I just got the "click". Tried it for a few minutes, but just got the click sound, so gave up.
Bike has the original battery, and it was only 3 degrees celsius outside. I see some people were having battery problems in the cold, could it be that? Or is a change of plugs needed? Hoping it's the battery and I can just replace it with a new decent one. Bike has always been in a garage, but this year it's in an underground car park that is fairly open to the elements, so the bike is much colder than normal.
About to get a lift to the shops to sort out the last few presents, so it's not urgent:)

By what your saying it sounds very like the battery is flat... or had it.

Try disconnecting it and giving it a charge, or leave it plugged into a optimised charger.

Regards

Yeah, extreme heat or cold really punishes batteries.

It could also be a loose battery terminal.

Check terminals tight and if no joy, try a set of jump leads or else charge the battery somehow before starting.

Cheers for the quick replys! Sort of hoping it was just the battery. New battery is in order. I'll stick this one on the optimate and see if it changes anything or gives me a few more weeks till I get a new one.
Is the odyssey battery the best one to get?

I would stick the battery on a proper battery charger (but not on "fast-boost") initially - to lift it quicker than an Optimate will.

Odysey are as good as any, in my opinion. I'm pretty sure the Odysey I got for my GS1200 is higher capacity than the original spec BMW one.

I've only got an optimate, so that's my only option! I've found a few places that do odyssey batteries around Dublin cos nippy norman won't ship here. I'll try and sort one asap.
Once again, cheers

Battery shagged.

Just wondering what part of "Any time I pressed the starter button I got a click, but no starter turning over" made you think it was the plugs ??

Can I suggest that you enrol on a bike maintenance course. You would learn a lot.

Looking at the invoice I got from Motorworks:

They supplied the ELA00534, which is the code for this one:

Linky

You may be able to get a cheaper supplier?

Optimisers are bloody good at recovering deeply discharged batteries, try this before using a normal charger,

Nearly six hours on and still no news!
Has Meath got it started yet??

I got my christmas presents anyway, which is the most important bit. Having an irish coffee at the moment, which is the second most important bit.
Don't have an optimate here, but I'll take the battery out tomorrow. Heading out to the parents house for christmas dinner, me dad has EVERYTHING in his garage. Just found out he has a charger too:)
