First real ride on the new 1300GS and I'm finding a few challenges to work through, ergonomically speaking.

For reference, I'm 6'1". 34" inside leg, 68kg.

Firstly, it's a bit of a stretch to reach the bars. I did consider up and back risers, but they would interfere with the tank bag. I think part of the problem is that I'm sat too far back on the seat, due, in part, to the tight knee angle.

So I try sitting further forward.

The seat slopes forward, so you kind of end up in the bottom of the scoop with more of your weight between your legs than on your backside. And lower, too. Meaning a tighter knee angle.

I think I'll try a slightly raised seat for this. Lowered pegs a possibility, but I quite like the ground clearance.

Secondly, the stock pegs are quite narrow. New ones on the way - should help a bit.

Lots of wind buffeting, even on the highest screen setting. Looking at a wind deflector (they look a bit naff to my eyes) or an aftermarket touring screen here.

Pillion is finding her seat a bit forward sloping too, which is fine until we do any firm braking.

Any thoughts, tips or advice welcome. None of these things are terrible, but on a long trip they might cause some discomfort.

Did you not consider the Adventure version?

You could possibly loosen the handle bar clamps and turn the handle bars a bit towards you.
I purchased a set of up and back risers from Ali express for £21 posted and they work great.

Can the riders seat be put on the high setting on the front and low at the back?

You can’t do that on the standard 1300 GS, the seat position is fixed

There is a lever underneath that changes something inside the seat, I’ve moved mine to the alternate position and it has helped

Wunderlich do a kit of rubbers to change the seat angle but I don’t know if it’s any good

Same height and leg measurements as me and i get no wind buffeting. Peaked lid? Have you got the adjustable screen? You might get used to some things, i have the standard seat find it plenty comfy for legroom to ride hours on end, the seat is not particularly padded, just about ok i guess with the odd stand up on the pegs.

I'm a bit spoiled, coming from the old Tiger Explorer 1200 with bar risers and a touring screen. Could ride for 12 hours on that and feel like I'd just got out of bed.

Not a peaked lid, but I did learn that the screen may have two height settings. Going to have a look later and see if it will move up. (It's the electric one, but even fully up I'm getting a lot of wind blast.)

I've got the raised Wunderlich seats coming, and some Motech footpegs to fit tonight (the current ones are about the size of a pack of Polos, but the Pillion ones are wider).

Pretty hopeful, but there's always the option of lowering pegs / raising bars.

pack of polos haha yes about right.

ah yes, different holes for the screen that might have something to do with it, but probably never going to be as good as your old touring screen.

Nope

Nope

You haven’t ridden one have you ?

You talk some bollocks.

try being right before shouting your mouth off

the screen is fucking terrible - way better then a 1200 or 1200LC GSA for sure - but still atrocious

Your diagram shows the 2 possible positions for the adjuster in the seat (not 3)

The screen is the best I’ve ever had on any bike

But you haven’t ridden one have you ? So you won’t know if it works for you or not :nenau

Evening, I’ve have a WRS screen which massively improves the protection whilst still looking relatively normal (some larger screens look terrible).

The stock seat is pitched too far forward and can only be adjusted for pitch using thr Wunderlich kit. I have one for sale if you would like it?

The lever adjusts the hardness of the seat. Buy a pair of Rippl shorts - genuinely.

I tried lowered pegs but it actually made comfort worse plus too easy to touch down. Back on standard pegs now.

Thanks. I'll have a look at WRS now.
Puig are "closed for August" according to Pyramid.

WRS screen , up and back risers and wunderlich rubber doodaas to lift the front of the seat. I can ride a full tank of juice in comfort.
