just riding the bike this morning and do'nt know if i had pushed something but the esa was stuck in sport mode , stopped the bike and switched the ignition off and on and it seems to be ok ,should i get the dealer to have a look as I think bmw warranty only lasts up to 30,000 and my bike is on 29500 .

If it's OK now it sounds like an intermittent fault. I don't know whether the ECU logs these but if it does you need to have BMW recognise it. If intermittent faults are not logged you might have more of a problem getting he dealer to do anything. AFAIK the damping is controlled by a stepper motor and I guess this drives a mechanical damping adjustment mechanism that could become stiff or seize. I would make sure the dealer runs through the damping modes several times to either free off the mechanism or create a proper fault that he will be obliged to fix. I'm not sure if the damping can be adjusted manually by removing the ESA unit if worst comes to worst and the dealer won't accept responsibility. In any case if the suspension has done 30,000 miles it's past its best and if the bike's a keeper I'd be planning to replace it anyway. Either Ohlins ESA, Wilbers ESA or a conversion to manual (these options in descending order of cost)

Cycle through all of the settings several times to see if you can replicate the fault before the warranty expires.

Green man, you forgot a rebuild by MCT suspension, Firefox racing etc. Had mine done at 38000 miles, £140 each plus postage.
