The £ is at 1.20 Euro today. Should be able to get 1.17/18 on the high street if you're planning that trip. Best it's been for a few months. Not sure if the rate will improve or fall back. My bet is it will drop back a couple of cents.

Just bought @ 1.17 on post office web site.... minimum of £450 ....but you can buy up to £2.5k in any one purchase.... commission free and you can collect from a PO of your choice within 3 days.

I am still waiting for all this Eurozone crisis to actually bring the rate down (up?) further.

A few years ago and before Europe was in the shite it was about E1.60 to the quid, would be nice to see it get closer to E1.50 again.

7 years ago I bought the houses in Provence at 1.49. Yes it does make a difference. My UK income has taken a hell of a knock, last year it was almost parity Euro/£. The current rate at 1.17 is not good but a lot better than of late

Well done! The Post office is offering 1.15 today so if you only did £450 you have gained 9 euros. Really is worth watching the rates in the quieter times of the year. I spend a large proportion of my time to and fro makes a difference.

Bought my flat in Tignes at €.50 and sold it last year at par.

I am George Soros.

That time of year again. If you are planning next year's trip it might be worth considering buying some Euros now. Seen 1.17 on the high street again, highest it's been for nearly 12 months. Makes a difference if you're buying £500 plus. Can't see it improving after Christmas but no guarantees.

Given the current situation in euroland, I'd be optomistically/cynically waiting for it to drop in value before next march.

You might even be exchanging for Francs!!!:D

Nothing would surprise me:D The whole Euro experiment seems to be falling apart, but for now I'll try to get the best rates and hopefully help some of next year's guests to do the same. Drachma seems like a good investment

The trend has been generally moving up since July, thanks for 'heads up' Thornley :thumb

Germany has been in the process of printing millions of Deutschmarks since October just in case the Euro collapses.

I'd be very reluctant forking out for Euros in advance. I have a bank account in Euroland and I'm making sure there is very little cash in it right now. :thumb
