Euro Maps On 660 - Idiots Guide

Advice please.

I am trying to load the European and UK maps on to my 660. The messages fro Garmin are that I do not have enough internal memory to cope, even though I have loads on the micro SD card installed.

My question is that I need an idiots guide on how to install on to the micro SD card and set it to ignore the internal memory. How do I manage this?

Is the card correctly formatted?

Unfortunately, after completing the update my Garmin says that "no data found" when trying to navigate.

If I load the UK & Ireland maps there are no issues - anything else I try causes the "no data" problems.

Appreciate your advice.

What size card is it?

The "No Detailed Maps Found That Support Routing" or "No Map Data Available" message may appear on your device for the following reasons:
◦The maps on the GPS device have been disabled
◦The GPS device is missing its unlock code
◦An unsuccessful map download attempt has written the mapping files incorrectly
◦If a microSD card is being used and is in an improper format

To determine the cause of the message, touch and hold your finger on the screen until the message "No Detailed Maps Found That Support Routing" disappears.
◦If you see a "Can't Unlock Maps" message following this error, remove the microSD card from the device and Retrieve Your Unlock Codes

When downloading information to a microSD card, the card should be in FAT or FAT 32 format

I have a 16gb micro SD card installed.

I am assuming that because I have a lifetime subscription and I get no error messages relating to unlock codes etc I am ok.

I did incorrectly (2nd time around) format the SD as a NT disc rather than FAT 32, this has now been reformatted to FAT 32.

I have again loaded UK & Ireland and all is ok. However, even though I have subscribed to EU maps I cannot load others.

Any suggestions as to why I am still getting the "no data" message?

not a good start,

im having the same problem just bought a 660, so hopefully all problems have been ironed out since they first came out. i have registered the unit online and downloaded the garmin express, and when i went to upload the updates it said not enough memory?????????

i am also having hassle using the garmin website - its not great, and as for trying to call garmin uk what a joke.

anyway i dont have a card in it yet but surely it should have enough memory to update?

Full Europe maps will not fit on a 660, you will need to use an micro SD card.

What I have done in the past, is make a copy of the entire Garmin's hard drive on my computer. Then go into your Zumo's hard drive and delete the maps (I think it's called the Mapprom file) it's easy enough to identify, as it's the largest file in the directory. I have also deleted all the languages I don't use. This should free up enough space for the new maps. It did on my 550 when I had it.

And if it all goes wrong, you have a complete copy of the hard drive on your computer............................

Garmin fit a small capacity SD card in all new 660LM's at a cost to them because they can't now sell a unit that won't hold their maps. How much free space do you have left on the device by deleting languages & installing Europe maps?

Will these take any size SD card or is there a maximum?
If I lose the files can I reload them from Garmin at anytime or should I copy the download to my Garmin on the PC?

Just got all the answers searching this forum, brilliant.

I have been pissing around with this for ages, I have now worked out what to do. I wanted to get as much data on the Zumo itself, and then use the SD card in case the card/reader fails, you still have some map data. So I do the following:

1) Take the SD card out of the Zumo, wait till Garmin Express complains about the lack of space and load UK & Ireland only
2) Download the full Europe mapset onto my pc.
3) Using Mapsource, select the rest of Western Europe and copy to the Zumo (this is loaded as a supplementary mapset and fits)
4) Using Mapsource, select Eastern Europe and copy to the SD card

This gives me the whole of mainland Europe but only Eastern Europe on the SD card, so I can take it out and the main mapping is still there. Shame Garmin Express doesn't do it this way !
