Joe:

You need to let us know exactly what model of "StreetPilot" you have. If it is one of the very early models, such as the black and white one, or the "StreetPilot Colormap", then the answer is no, you cannot use any CityNavigator or CitySelect product, because those two units don't support serial number unlocking of the maps. They are so old (literally, from the last century), they were produced before serial number unlocking of maps was invented.

This means you are limited to the MetroGuide family of maps, if you want current map data. But, think carefully before going out and buying new cartography - you might find that the memory capacity of those older units (32 megs max, I think) renders them unusable for anything other than just navigating around within about 50 miles of your house (assuming you don't live in a big urban area, such as London).

OK, thanks again Pan

I've got a Colourmap with three memory cards - 16Mb, 64Mb & 128Mb. It accepts all of them & is very useful in that I have the IOM loaded on the small card for when I go to the TT, NW France on the 64MB card for when I go to Eurocamp The entire UK on the 128Mb card (including Gatso sites around NW England).

As an introduction to GPS use, it's been a great benefit & much better than the monochrome versions IMO. Add to this the fact that I've the latest v6 mapping software & it's been a bargain. The only real drawback is its lack of autorouting, but that has been relatively easy to deal with.

I've had a windfall & bought a Quest which arrived last night so the colourmap will probably be on the FS board soon......;)

Paul:

I'm curious, does your ColourMap have the ability to read a 128 meg card that is full of maps - meaning, with 120+ megs of maps on it? I thought there was a limitation of 32 megs storage capacity (regardless of data card size) and 50 map segments - this due to the firmware of the ColourMap. But, obviously, I could be wrong. So please check and let me know.

I get a max of 50 maps but no limit on the total size......until I reach the card limit at 128, 64 or 16Mb. That's why I've been so pleased with it.
