Ever gone past fuel light warning ?

Just lately, Ive sailed close to the wind with 4 or 5 miles showing on the fuel gauge several times just before I managed to get to the petrol station.

Has anyone,by accident or design, gone past that figure. ie, nil, or minus miles to go !!!

Does the bike go "slurp" followed by much swearing and a trip to local BM garage. ???

OR are BM being conservative, and will the bikes actually keep going beyond Nil miles ???
 
Yes. How far you get just depends. Why would you need a bm garage for running out of fuel?

Hit zero and gone a little beyond more than once - but bear in mind gauge calibration/accuracy does vary between bikes (judging by posts by other owners)
 
Last night I ran 2miles on "--", I've done up to 5miles following '0' before now. However....I had a K1200S a few years back and ran out of fuel 3 times.....when that hit 0 - it meant 0 !
Power just fades quickly and you're off to the hard shoulder/side of the road - just like any other bike really.

Most I've put in this GSA is 32.78Litres, regularly put in 36litres in my last one......must have had a hole in the tank....:D
 
Only ever let the gauge get to '28mls' left showing and when filled up, still apparently 3 - 4 litres still in the tank?????????
 
Mine goes about 10 miles past zero before it runs dry

with evry bike i ever get i and the bike ,get a petrol tin on the bike . i fill it up. trip it till the light comes on then run it and note how much it will run untill it splutters ,
put the fuel in ,hey presto when you hunting for fuel in france ,it takes the worry out of it !!!!
 
I once got 250 miles out of the 20l tank of my last 1200, and still had 3 miles left.
But I did put 20.35 litres back in?
 
My 2010 GSA with new sender runs 50km past 0 if you pop the odd wheelie it will run more. Its never completly out of fuel. If it grinds to a halt i can tip it up on the side stand and continue with the last few liters.
 
Been 18 miles past zero.

Also had her run out with 17 miles left, after a service where the tank was off.

Pushed the fully-laden cow quarter of a mile to a petrol station.
Filled her up, turned on ignition, listened to sounds of pumps and things and fired her up.

Did 299.9 miles without running out in Spain once.

I went 30 past zero once when my fuel gauge/RH lower coil/RH Lambda went tits up whilst touring in Scotlandshire, it was running like shit. Luckily my riding companion was also on a GSA fuelled at the same stops and his fuel gauge was fine so I felt confident I could keep going. Got to the Tesco at Wick and put about 105% fuel in it, it must have been on vapours.

On the M6 on the way home a few days later I underestimated my consumption and ran out of fuel, so laid it over to the LHS and added the contents of my petrol stove, giving me enough to restart and make it to a truck refuge and refuel. A new Lambda got it running economically enough again.
 
Ran out at 2 miles once, but the other day it started to splutter at 26 miles, I wobbled the handlebars a bit and it got me to the nearest garage, 100yds away!
 
Ran out 20 yards from home with 12 miles left on the gauge :blast Only time I let it get past 30 miles to go :)
