2009 gs, ran it to 0 at 185 miles. The computer said 54 mpg so I figured I was OK for min 200 miles on a tank full. It took 16.4 l to fill it back up.
The gauges are a real waste of time but its so difficult to ignore a flashing warning and a triangle warning sign all lit up.
I think BMW give the fuel gauge, seat, footrests, shafts, gearboxes, fuel controllers and rear bevel boxes to their first year apprentices to look after, they cannot seriously consider them developed despite 20 years of trying, amateurs in sheds do a better job.
Despite this I do like the bike, just wish its development was finished and I felt confident of a trouble free tour.

However on both occasions I was extremely lucky and coasted onto a garage forecourt
