Has anyone had this problem?? I got home last night from work and I turned the ignition off. It all went off and after a few seconds the dashboard lights and running lights all came on and would not go off even though the key was out. 'EWS; was displayed on the dash. I even tried with the spare key turning the engine on and then off and the same thing happened, so it cannot be the key. I took the bike for a run and the same thing happened when I came home. So obviously I went to the bike this morning and the battery was dead. Weird!!!

EWS

I had the EWS issue on a trip (along with intermittent stalling and hooter blowing) and the bike going into reduced power mode Etc -

Turned out to be a loose connection to the battery terminal - Only properly diagnosed when the bike failed to start one morning - despite the dealership plugging into the mother ship computer to check error codes etc.

Tightened connector and bobs your aunty - bike runs perfectly. Few embarrassed "technicians" at the dealership who failed to check the basics.

maybe start there

Quite possibly water in the ignition switch..... shorting it out, so even with the key removed the ignition is still on! Hence battery drain, EWS warning up as there is no key in place for the ring antenna to read.... but the ignition is on... computer says huh???

Have replaced several ign. switches on my bike. The last one I lifted the lid on the switch and packed it with grease, been ok so far.....:blast thats cursed it :D

If water is the issue a cheap can of electrical contact cleaner sprayed into it might be cheap fix.

I hope you've disconnected the battery and charged it, they die quickly if left discharged.

If the problem is the micro switch it will be energising a relay somewhere. If it's accessible removing it, they normally just plug into carrier socket, will stop the battery going flat. Can't tell you were to find it on the twins, sorry.

The Ign. Switch switches 12v straight to the Bike's magic computer box which tells it to wake up and do its thing....... no relay.

The connector for the Ign. Switch is buried behind the headstock requiring screw drivers et al to get to. Bit of a pain.
