EWS fault on the display. New Ring Antenna fitted but sadly did not cure the fault. Battery Good, all the wiring appears ok, no cracks, nips etc. The main beam does not come on with the ignition (I think it used to). Not sure if this is connected to the fault or not. I have read the EWS threads but struggling now.
Is it a trip to the dealer for the diagnostic delv?
Its a 2005 gs1200. Any ideas team?

Cant help you with the EWS fault but the headlight definitely doesn't come on with the ignition and never has. It only comes on after the engine is running.

Main beam only comes on once the engine is running.

Have you tried more than one ignition key ?

No more than one key on the key ring ?? (they can "fight with each other" when near the ring antenna).

Keys not been near any intense magnetic fields lately ???

Sadly the immobiliser is not easy to interrogate (for obvious reasons) and requires a dealer with a GT1 computer for proper diagnostics, I don't think my GS911 would fix it, otherwise I'd offer to pop over and help.

EDIT: Marki beat me to it.

EWS

I've tried both keys and with two EWS units. No magnetic fields I can think of..Thanks for the thought of a trip along the coast, but sadly it looks like a van ride to Barnstormers.

EWS

When I had this problem on my 2006 GS, if I kept the steering full over to the left (as in locked position) the bike would start, otherwise EWS fault would prevent the bike from starting. I went around for a few days like this before
getting it sorted permanently. It might not work every time but I know it did the trick for quite a few owners (one of many built in GS faults).

EWS / wiring

I had exactly the same fault and agree with doggy dog the left hand turn worked for me too , no sign of wiring fault but when I stripped back the wires under headstock to the ring antenna found the wires to short Spliced in a couple of extensions and problem solved it took longer to strip off the body work than to repair the wires best of luck finding the fault and fixing it :nenau
