Yep, the dreaded EWS non start happened to me on Saturday, bike is only just out of first service.

Good job I have the Portuguese BMW assistance number on my phone, gave them a call, to be told "we don't provide assistance for bikes".

WTF?, when I finally got home I checked the European contact guide and the motorcycle assistance is clearly listed as 24 hour. I checked the number and I had dialled the right one.

I am off to the dealers this morning (in my car) to have it out with them.

Its bad enough to have this failure, but to be told you're "on your own" when you need assistance from BMW is a bit annoying to say the least.

Am I right here?, R1200GS does come with recovery doesn't it?

WHAT !!!!!!!!!! For two years here in Greece we have assistance for BMW bikes. Like all over the Europe. After than - two years - we pay some euro extra. 80 E per year if I rememberd well.

of course you have right 100%. Go for it :mcgun:mcgun

Just got back and they confirmed that there is no roadside assistance in Portugal and that I would have to take it up with BMW.

I said no, because the contract is with the dealer, they confirmed to me that there was assistance before I bought the bile and I have the dealer network booklet showing assitance in Portugal for motorbikes.

They are coming to pick the bike up at 12.30 (the dealer)

They should replace the ring antenna uinder warranty.

Same thing happened to me, and its been Ok since the replacement.

Grizzly, can I ask how many miles/months it has been OK for?. Its just that I am riding back to UK in May and its got me concerned.

Thanks

Get used to it mate...same old usual BMW customer care shit.
And another antenna ring goes up the swanny.........wait for the usual defence team to start posting:blast

Yep, I am aware I am sitting on the fence here, and I do want to have a rant a bit especially considering my last 3 brand new BMW bikes have all failed within 1000 miles, so I have told the dealer to get me the best price to take it back and I'll consider it.

Funny thing is when the dealers "BMW Recovery" wagon turned up (ten year old Hiace wirh a plank of wood) the bloke who actually sold me the bike said I would have been better off buying Japanese!

Im thinking of doing the same...........
I will see what they will offer me after settling finance.
If its reasonable...hip hip horray..back to Jap bikes.....

Hardly a constructive comment is it Shaun the lamb.
But I suppose we have to make an allowance for you, after all you do live of cornish pasties and reside down a tin mine.

ahhh Shaun you found a little friend.........altogether now.........ahhhhhhh
