Exhaust downpipe fitting

Just had a look around the search feature but couldnt find what I was looking for (but then again I havent got a spare few hours to really hunt).

Anyway my left handside exhaust downtube has a great big dent in the pipe. I've sourced a replacement for it & am now looking at fitting it.
Do I need to take both side downtubes off to do it? I'm aware that I may end up with a broken stud, anyway's to minimise the risk? Exhuast warm or dead cold? Oh & I presume I should use exhaust assembly paste when refitting it all?

Just deciding if I should do it today or not.............:confused:
 
Gently try loosening the exhaust nut, if it seems tooooooooooooooooo tight, try a blowtorch on it. Don't burn the paint off your cylinders!
 
Thanks for the replys, I actually managed to do it yesterday morning carefully anyway. :augie

Wasnt too bad at all & after losening the adventure sump plate & gently tapping the exhaust it slid out from the cat pipes with no worries. The actual studs on the engine were ok & undid without any heat. The lower ones look fine but the top ones did look a bit ropey with rust under where the exhaust end sits. I did them back up carefully but firmly & all was well.

Best thing about it is it's become so much better running:thumb . I had felt the bike was a bit lumpy before & surged around at about 3-4,000 rpm. I had already tried the resetting the mototronic bit to no avail, was going to try balancing the valves next. But after replacing the dented downtube & then doing the mototronic reset (well I had too anyway after disconecting the battery whilst fitting my fog lights) it now runs very sweet & pulls like I expected the bike too.
